Mexico/Guatemala/Belize trip July 2025

Hello all!

I am planning this trip in July (4-22) with my wife and 2 teenager kids

Arrival Mexico City late afternoon
Mexico City
Mexico City
Bacalar
Bacalar
Bacalar
Caulker
Caulker
Caulker
Caulker
San Ignacio
San Ignacio
San Ignacio
Tikal
Flores
Antigua
Antigua
Antigua
Leave Guatemala airport mid day

I know we only have 2 days in CDMX, but with 2 teenagers I think it's enough to get an impression and get the atmosphere. Then fly to Chetumal in the morning for Bacalar. Also from Flores to Antigua we will fly (GUA).

As we have mostly 3 nights in 1 place I think this is an okay schedule. What do you think? Too rushed or okay? We like to relax but also to do and discover stuff. We do not have to see ALL attractions an area has to offer.

Thanks for feedback!

I once enjoyed spending several days in Bacalar, but did so in January, rather than amid July's intense heat and humidity. For me, in the regions that you'll be visiting, any place with less than about 1,000 meters/3,000 feet of elevation, would be more comfortably visited during winter months, from December thru March. You anticipate spending five days in places that will merely be pleasantly warm (Mexico City, Antigua), and 12 days to in brutally hot lowland locations. I would reverse that pattern or perhaps spend the entire vacation up in highland locations. Some scenic highland locations in both in both Mexico and Guatemala have resorts with pools that are fed by hot water or cool water springs.

"We like to relax but also to do and discover stuff."

There are many great places to 'discover', including extraordinary ancient ruins, located in highland areas within a half day's bus ride from Mexico City. And much can be experienced in Guatemala's highlands, accessed via GUA and Antigua.

That's an awful lot of flights in a short period of time. Have you checked the weather for July in those locations (regarding rainy season, heat, humidity, bugs, etc.)? I mean you must have a reason for picking those places to visit? Too me seems rushed and a push to try and visit 3 countries and 7 stops in less than 3 weeks. Your trip, your choice but I would think the teens might like a little more downtime?

You mention "3 nights" in most places, but when you change locations you really need to dedicate at least a 1/2 day to make that change (check out of hotel/resort/apartment, get to airport, wait for flight, take flight, get new rental car or local transportation, check into next hotel, unpack). Do it all again two days later...

buena suerte/good luck!
