Xcaret Underground River

My family did this 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I read the post about he boulder killing someone - can anyone else comment on this water park or if the danger is something that will continue to be a problem. We'd like to do this again while there in June. What has the park done since this incident to prevent anything else like that occurring???

Lois, This all sounds like an "urban myth" and I would demand some real proof that something actually did happen before believing it.

Lois: What you read was someone saying about an accident of a rock falling, and a cruise ship or he park not "helping" out. Someone pointed out that what was the point of the thread?? And then someone pointed out to the "stupid" second person that the guy had died. Where the dead part came in - is a mystery. To me it was pointless gossip.

The fatal snorkeling accident at Xcaret was reported on the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw recently (either during the week of April 14 or early during the week of April 22). The gist of the NBC News broadcast is as follows: An American family (parents and teenage son and daughter) were on a Carnival cruise and purchased tickets to the Xcaret park through Carnival. While snorkeling in the underground river, tha father was injured by a boulder falling 20 feet from the roof, and died shortly afterwards from severe head trauma. His widow stated in the on-air interview with NBC News that Carnival refused to give the bereaved family any help, unloaded their luggage, and left them stranded in Mexico to cope alone with the hospitals, authorities, etc... The Carnival cruise line, which declined to be interviewed on-camera for the NBC News story, issued a statement that it was not responsible since it does not own or operate the Xcaret park. The family is suing Carnival and Xcaret for several million dollars. If the date of the accident mentioned in the NBC broadcast, I did not catch it but I got the impression this happened relatively recently.
