Spanish Immersion schools

What advice/precautions do you have for these schools?

My advice:
Email my wife, Vicki, at the above address. She researched this topic quite throughly, then spend a few weeks in Oaxaca at a school.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with your question, but I'll answer based on my 3 experiences with language schools in Mexico. I first attended a school in Puebla and was disappointed with the quality of the instruction (though the people were very nice). Then, someone recommended a language-broker type organization called National Registration Center for Study Abroad (NRCSA) and for my 2nd and 3rd times, used them. I visited their Internet site (www.nrcsa.com), read the materials they sent, and spoke to one of their representatives on the phone. The representative was extremely knowledgeable, asked what I was looking for in a language learning experience, and directed me to the schools that met my criteria. I had wonderful experiences both in Cuernavaca and Guadalajara. Incidentally, I found out later that the school in Puebla had once been registered by them, but had been de-listed. The prices I paid were the same as if I had booked directly with the schools. Hope this helps!

I did this in Antigua Guatemala which seems cheaper than Mexico at least. Had no complaints ( I went there just to have the chance to prattle on to a native ) except that if you don't know any spanish the tutors did not speak english !! They rattle on in Spanish at you until you get it. I was offered a temporary teaching post .. that must say something ??

On this note if you can't speak any spanish ensure your teacher is some way bi-lingual !!
