R&R in Roatan?

I am mulling over plans for a week long trip in mid January. I will be travelling solo as DH does not get as much vacation time as I do. The criteria are:
1) someplace that is not high on his travel wish list which could be any place in Central America, South America or the Caribbean
2) being able to use Delta miles for the flight
3) reasonable prices so I don’t spend too much of our travel budget on a trip that is just for me

My last trip was to Guatemala in August, and I visited ruins, hiked and kayaked. It was fantastic, but I am thinking of something less active for this one. A place with warm temperatures and good snorkeling sound great, so I have settled (I think) on Roatan. Delta has flights from Atlanta to Roatan, so that part works out. I plan to snorkel, read good books and do a few outings such as the butterfly garden, the Gumbalima nature park, and the botanical gardens. I noticed they have a place to windsurf, which would be great too. Wait, what was that part about less active?

At first I was thinking of going to both Utila and Roatan, but I would have to go from Roatan to La Ceiba and get a boat to Utila from there. Delta does not have flights to La Ceiba. That sounds like too much trouble. I have looked through the guidebook and some comments here, and I am thinking I can spend a great week on Roatan.

I am considering staying a couple of different places, perhaps first at a budget place for four nights (Posada Iris or Posada Las Orchideas in West End?) then moving to something a little higher end for the last few nights (Las Rocas in West Bay?). Since I would be on the island for a week, a change of location might be interesting. I also looked at the Mayan Princess for the last few nights, but $330 a night seems a little crazy since the other hotels sound lovely and are so much less. One of the things that attracted me about that place is that the guide book makes a point of the fact that there is great snorkeling just a few yards off the beach there.

I am hoping to get Fodorite opinions on lodging or just general comments on Roatan.
Thanks!

Great choice!

We really enjoyed Posada Arco Iris on Half Moon Bay in West End. They have different room configurations, it's a good value, and easy walking distance to restaurants and dive shops.
