Roatan, Honduras questions
We want to fly to Roatan from Houston next Dec. The fares seem very expensive. Can anyone help me tell me where to find a "reasonable" fWare? Also, has anyone stayed at the Half Moon cabins? Can you swim and snorkel right in front of them? What is the weather like in late Dec? Thanks.

I've yet to find a bargain fare to Roatan. I have friends there, so I don't need an air/hotel package. TACA is the only airline that flies onto the island, so they don't put the fares on sale. It's been between $500 and $600 every time I've gone - and that's from New Orleans! Once you are on the island, however, things are inexpensive - unless you are renting a car.

<BR>Half Moon cabins, on Half Moon Bay, in West End, Roatan. My girlfriend and I were in West End for 3 weeks last Feb. (2/00) and snorkeled right at steps that lead down to the water from the resteraunt. Very doable, very easy, I think you may have to walk an extra 50 yards from the cabins. Although we statyed at Pinocchios, we ate a few times at Half Moon and snorkeled there 3 or 4 times. The place looked great. The food was decent. Has great atmosphere. My advice is that to get dive certified, if you aren't. I did while I was there. Took 3 days. I am spell bound by the beauty of the diving. Inexpensive, great instruction, you are only a few hundred yards off shore when you can start some dives. You can also snorkel out to some nice reef sections right from Half Moon Bay. I recommend Mickey at West End Divers. A Brittish dude with all the patience in the world and all the people at the dive shop were great. Try dinner at Pinnochios! Great food! tom
