Mary
You posted a reply to someone else re the Punta Arena Hotel. I am not familiar with that property, you said close to downtown. What is the exact location. Do you have a locale phone number.
Ps. How is it that you are lucky enough to live in PV year around?
Hi Hank, the hotel is next to the Sheraton hotel. I hope you know where that is. The local phone number for reservations would be 22 48626 or you could send an e-mail to [email protected]
Hi Mary,
Do you have any suggestions about Barra de Navidad? We have been to Puerto Vallarta and are wanting to try something new. We are also considering Manzanillo. Thanks for your help.

Mary:

I am looking into a trip to Puerto Vallarta and the tour group is staying at the Visa Club Playa de Oro. How is this property? I have been to PV twice and have stayed at the Camino Real and liked it very much. Will I be disappointed since I am hearing that this Playa de Oro is not as nice as the Camino Real? Thanks for your help.

Hello. About Barra de Navidad : I would not go there for longer than 3 days. The Grand Bay hotel is beautiful and if you are a golfer, you will love the golf-course there ! If you are not a golfer, and you want to do more than being at the pool, I think you should combine Puerto Vallarta with Barra de Navidad , as there is not so much to do. The village is quaint, and you can visit it in about one hour.
I have only visited Manzanillo once, and that is quite some time ago. No comparison with Puerto Vallarta. I think I would then prefer Mazatlan over Manzanillo. I did not particularly like the hotels in Manzanillo either, except for Las Hadas, which is a real beauty.
Besides that, the beaches were not great, but I am not an expert in this area !!

Hi Louise, about the Playa de Oro, I personally like this hotel, even though it is not really comparable to the Camino Real which is real 5* hotel. However, the Playa de Oro is a 4*, but Mexican style, sort of cozy, no high buildings, very good atmosphere, and it definitely offers good value for money. It is also all-inclusive. Of course this means that it can happen that you will have to stand in line sometimes for your food, but the food is rather good, and there are many organized activities. The beach is very good with many palapas for shade. The rooms are a bit smaller and less luxurious than at the Camino Real, but they are clean, and most of them have some nice Mexican details. If you are not expecting too much, you should not be disappointed, just enjoy a great time here.
If you or the people in your group would like to do some tours, I recommend you to have a look at the following web-site: http://www.royale-tours.com and contact Royale Tours if you would like to organize anything for the group. You will receive an excellent service and good advice.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions !

Mary, thank you very, very much for your excellent recommendations. We had a great time in Puerto Vallarta. I can recommend anyone to book the Highlights of Puerto Vallarta, the Caletas by Night and the Horseback riding !!

Mary,

Thinking about PV in January. Narrowed it down to Marriott CasaMagna or Camino Real. Which is in a better location? We hate being too isolated, but want the best. Thanks for the help

Both the Marriott and the Camino Real are excellent hotels. Personally I would chose the Camino Real because it is in the beautiful South Area, and it has a great beach. The beach at the Marriott is not very good, but the service is top and you are very near to the marina , where you have shops and restaurants.
It would depend a little on your priorities. From the Marriott to downtown driving distance is about 15 minutes and from the Camino Real around 10 minutes. Both hotels are excellent.
Also, if you would like to have a look at tours or activities available , chech the web-site http://www.royale-tours.com

Suerte y buen viaje !

Hi Alisa, happy to let you know that Puerto Vallarta was not affected at all by the recent floodings. These floodings are taking place in other areas of Mexico, very far away . Here everything is just fine, climate is great, rainy season is almost over ( we probably just have a couple more days to go ) and the temperatures are excellent.

PV is a great place, but I feel that you have to drive a litte ways out to get the best beaches. We did a beach in Nayarit (to the North) called Destiladeros (sp) that we thought was nice. We really like the downtown area for eating and sight seeing and also the Marina for eating.

In Barra the life is different, less to do, but still lots to see for a short visit. The beach is great and the town of Barra is small and easy to get around. I agree it is better to visit for a short while unless you are trying to escape for a while.

In Manzanillo, we stayed at the Sierra, great hotel with a good beach and average food. Downtown Manzanillo is not so great compared to PV.

I would recommend all three if your touring. Barra is closer to Manzanillo and a great day trip. Also the capital city of Colima, also called Colima is a good day trip from Manzanillo. Things are a little further away from PV if you are thinking of day trips for culture.
