Lake Titicaca Questions

1) Anyone know of a tour that takes you to just Uros (floating island) and Taquile w/ a homestay on Taquile. And leave early the next morning back to Puno? We have a flight at 4 p.m. to catch, and most overnight tours also stop in Amantani and returns at 5 p.m.

2) How do we carry luggage around (carry-ons w/ wheels)? On the boat and on the island? Is there a weight limit? Or there are porters to help you w/ luggage esp. on Taquile?

Or there's a safe place to keep them in Puno?

3) Are there mosquitoes and bugs at night on the islands? At the end of May?

This is one of my concerns about doing a homestay--of being eaten alive by bugs and mosquitoes!

Thanks!

P.S. Is everyone on vacation? I've posted so many questions and have hardly received response. Really appreciate your sharing of your knowledge and experience. We need to work out this last kink in the itinerary before buying our air tickets in a few weeks. Mucho Gracias!!

Thanks very much!

Hi, I did not use this company when we went to Lake Titicaca (we ended up going to the Bolivian side) but I had contacted them when I was doing research. They always got back to me promptly and have had good reviews from other travelers. All Ways Travel:

If you are staying in Puno perhaps you can check to see if your hotel will keep you luggage. It's usually not a problem.

Also at least from the Bolivian side, I do not remember there being many bugs. Perhaps it's the altitude? lol

Good luck!

we took a day tour from the dock behind our sonesta hotel-left about 8am and was back maybe 4-5-there is a lot of distance between taquile and uros and depending on the wave action, you may not be back in time for your flight. there is no room on the small boats for luggage-something that should be checked at your hotel. chcek with your hotel to see if you could just tour taquile-which I think is the nearest to puno.
