First trip to Puerto Vallarta - Need Suggestions

I will be leaving for my first visit to Puerto Vallarta on 5/27/99 and could use some guidance. My friends and I will be staying at the Westin Regina and my brother and wife will be at the Sheraton. How close are we to each other? What types of excursions are "must see's"? What about shopping bargains? Will it be brutally hot & humid this time of the year? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your hotels aren't really near each other but not too far either. Maybe a l0 minute taxi ride. Weather should be warm but comfortable, not overly humid yet. Bring sunscreen! PV is a delightful little town to walk around in, find wonderful restaurants, and lots of shopping. Lots of silver/pottery/baskets. You won't need a car, buses and taxi's are abundant, cheap and easy to use (and often quite an experience!) Try to go way south of town past Mismaloya just for scenery along the way, and stop at Le Kliff (sometimes calle La Quebrada) for drinks. Very pretty. There's a variety of boat excursions, or get your own. Horse back riding is available too.If you do a PV search on this forum you'll find LOTS of recommendations for restaurants as well as an abundance of other information. Have a wonderful time.

I was in P.V. this winter. We did: 1)City tour - great way to see everything quickly and get your bearings 2) Boat trip to Caletas at night - this trip was really wonderful! They take you by boat to an island with no electricity - very romantic and the food was really good. The island is lit by tiki torches and there is a pre-Columbian ballet after dinner. I'll never forget this trip!! 3) we did the bar tour with Signature Vacations - we were 210 approx. who toured 4 bars for $16 you also got a free souvenir t-shirt and a free drink in each of the 4 bars. All ages were on the bar trip from early 20s to 60s and 70s -- highly recommended!

If you are planning to travel to Puerto Vallarta, I can recommend you to contact Royale Tours before you travel. They are a local tour-company and I found them on a message board, and had some corrrespondence with them, and got very valuable information and recommendations. I was able to swim with the dolphins, because they booked it for me beforehand, and it would have been impossible to book it during my short stay in Puerto Vallarta. I also booked a couple of other tours with them and all were just great. I can highly recommend
you to send them an e-mail , their address is [email protected]

About the dolphins. First of all, it is very difficult to get the space, so it is a good idea to reserve a long time in advance.

Then, there are two programs:
Dolphin encounter : Standing waist deep in the water guests are introduced to our family of Bottlenosed Dolphins. As curious about us , as we are of them, they swim amongst us offering their sleek and graceful bodies to be petted gently , to shake our hand and give us a friendly kiss
Swim with the dolphins : A limited number of guests , enter the water and actually swim with the dolphins. It is the opportunity to intimately interact with the dolphins in their own environment, to play and to enjoy each other at the fullest.
Three sessions daily : 10.00 a.m. , 12.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. in Nuevo Vallarta
The price for the Dolphin Encounter is of $60.00 US per person and the price for the swim with the dolphins is of $ 130.00 US per person

Whichever program you chose, it is a chance to really learn about these enchanting and gentle creatures. You can observe, swim and interact with the dolphins in the sea water lagoon.

You can make reservations thru the following web-site : http://www.royale-tours.com
or send me an e-mail if you have any questions at all.
