February Visit to Ixtapa -- Things We Must Do
This will be my second trip to Ixtapa, my husband's first. We are staying at the Doubletree Resort Hotel. Does anyone know anything about that hotel? I stayed at the Sheraton previously and was very happy with it. Are there any side trips anyone would recommend? Acapulco? Any restaurants we must try? Any experiences we must have? Also, does anyone know about the restaurant that used to be the home of the police chief some political magistrate that sits on the side of a hill? We'd appreciate any comments.

I couldn't agree more. In my opinion Zihua is the best part of Ixtapa!! We loved wandering the streets of Zihua and the shops. We never ate any seafood that we didn't love, and the views are terrific! We went fishing, stayed close to the shore and caughts lots of black tuna. Then the boat took us to Ixtapa Island where the local staff cooked our fish for us with garlic and butter. We snorkeled and read on the beach while they prepared our lunch. When we were ready to go, our guide took us back to the pier. I think we paid around $40 for the entire day. Just enjoy the laid back atmosphere of Zihua and have a great time!!

Dona

I stayed at the Doubletree recently. I think it is a pretty standard hotel. I saw some details (paint, floor) that could use some work. I definitely think the best hotel in Ixtapa is the Camino Real (I think now it is a Westin). It is in a little secluded mountain (with its own beach) but since Ixtapa is so small you do not really have a problem into going to the "big" beach were the rest of the hotels are.

I agree with the Marina restaurants, pretty nice place, ideal for a romantic dinner. I also like very much Zihuatanejo and the places people have suggested.

Regarding other side trips, Acapulco is a good 4 hour drive, through a 2nd class road, so I would not recommend it unless you are planning half your trip in Ixtapa and then half in Acapulco, which could give you both the tranquility and romanticism of Ixtapa and the crazy nightlife and busy streets of Acapulco.

Hope you have a nice trip.
