favorite central american country other than Costa Rica

Cannot stay in north america for the winter. Am spending this winter in Costa Rica, any suggestions other than CR again, for next year? Thanks.

Karen

Without knowing your interests it's hard to say. Culture, spring-like climate year round, low cost: Guatemala. If diving and snorkeling are a priority: Belize or Bay Islands, Honduras.

My photos and travelogues are linked below if you're interested. Keep us posted!

Thanks for your response. I love the ocean, swimming at Manuel Antonio has been great. I shall be a lone female, retired. Someplace safe, easy access to a grocery store as I prefer to cook, as a vegetarian going out to eat is not a priority. Summer, as opposed to spring like, weather. My main interest in leaving home is to get away from the cold, grey days of winter. Not into sightseeing for this kind of getaway, just a home away from home place. Would like to stay somewhere with a pool and other North Americans in a community type setting. thank you again.

How about Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, or Placencia in Belize or Roatán in Honduras? For Belize, check out Lan Sluder's great site: www.belizefirst.com and the Belize Forum: www.belizeforum.com

Keep us posted!

I am considering Roatan, thanks for suggestion, hopefulist. Any ideas where I can stay long term, Jan-March?
Thank you,
Karen

There are lots of rental properties. We rented a little house for a week 4 years ago but it's no longer a rental. If you google "roatan rental" you'll get lots of links. Keep us posted!

Many of the rentals will be in the little town of West End. Ours was in the Sandy Bay area, mostly residential, about 3 miles east. West Bay beach is gorgeous; there's not a town there, just high end lodging and probably rentals. The town of Coxen Hole isn't very attractive, sort of the business center. There are smaller towns like Oakridge and Port Royal but you'd be more isolated. I've seen a few rentals mainly accessible by boat - lots of options. Good luck!

Have you looked around on VRBO? Fun to look at what is out there. It might give you some ideas. I know several people that have found rentals through them. VRBO.com
