I can give you some places to eat in downtown Cancun. The food here is more authentic, probably better, and less expensive than on the beach. El Tacolate for very inexpensive and delicious tacos - sometimes has live musicians; El Pescador for terrific seafood; Los Almendros for Yucatecan cuisine such as poc chuc - I think the Cancun location is near the bullring (I ate at the one in Merida); Rosa Mexicano (on a small street across from the entrance to the Hotel Antillano) - excellent Mexican cuisine with a twist; there is also a great pizza restaurant downtown - for the life of me, I cannot remember the name of it - it is something Italian - you may see ads for it in some publications that you pick up. I can't tell you too much about beachfront hotels. We stayed at the Antillano downtown for about $60 a night. It was fine except for the noisy wood floors - if you use it, get a room away from the stairs.

I am booked at the Albatros in Playa del Carmen for mid-Feb @ $90/night (3 people)including breakfast. It's right on the beach, sounds charming (thatched roofs, hammocks) and small. The web site is www.turqreef.com. I heard good things about it from this forum & I sure hope they were accurate!

Karen,

Hi! What have you heard about the Albatross? I looked up the website and it looks very promising.

Conrad, for really extensive information, you may try these sites and post a similar question:

http://www.gringoguide.com

http://www.gringoguide.com/852567560...lDocs?openview

http://www.InsideTheWeb.com/mbs.cgi/mb820707

For personal information, I'll be glad to help with Cozumel and Cancun. It would be helpful if you gave me an idea of what you're planning to see, how long you plan to stay in each area, do you have young children, etc.
