cancun-1st time

I am thinking of traveling to Cancun in Jan/Feb of next year with my husband and 2 year old and I know nothing about Cancun. Is it safe, in case of emergencies, how are the local hospitals (you never know what is going to happen with a toddler). Any recommendations on accommodations, cost isnt an issue? Are there alot of good rest in the "hotel zone"? Is it like the caribbean?

Cancun has a good american hospital because of the number of people from the US and CAnada that stay there. The beaches on the Isla Mujeres BAy side are much more suitable for swimming. Check out the Presidente and Quality Inn which have great beaches. The selection of places to eat is endless.
At the airport you wiil receive a booklet called cancun menus which will give you a starting point.

Hello,

Cancun is very safe and has probably the most beautiful beaches on earth. The sand is never...I mean never hot....always cool no matter the weather. As far as medical attention, Mexico as a whole has excellent doctors and medical service.

I recommend the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach since you said $ is not an issue. It has a great beach area that is calm for swimming and is close to everything.

Please write me with questions. Ive been to Cancun 11 times since 1974. I've also been to 40 countries so its not the only place I've been to.

Thanks

By the way.....Cancun is located in the Western Carribean/Mexican Carribean. But its not like the rest of the Carribean, there is a lot of history near by. Remember that Cancun itself is a modern/international resort. Its only been around for 25 years or so. Its all new. Its not like Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco which have history dating back to the 1500's as major ports.

There are small ruins nearby and major ones within a short drive.

I am also thinking about Cancun and have narrowed it down to LeMeridien or Fiesta Americana. Can anyone compare and contrast these resorts? They both seem very nice. The deciding factors would be:

Which one is on a nicer stretch of beach?
Which one is on a more swimmable stretch of beach?
Which one would be more likely to have less families, hence less children at the pool? (We are in our early 40s and want to avoid resorts that tend to attract alot of families with children.)
Cheryl-The FA Coral Beach is lovely, but I did see lots of kids there. Do not know about LeMeridian, but seems more adult oriented.

Cheryl:

The Fiesta Americana Coral Beach has an extremely large pool area - absolutely gorgeous. A great beach area too. We went in June (without children) and had a wonderful trip. Did not notice too many children either.
