cabo in January,trip report

I just spent four days in late January with my brothers and a couple of friends. We flew in from different points and met at The Bungalows which I had arranged almost completely via e-mail with Steve, the manager. Their website says 100% smoke free which would have been perfect for me but immediatly after booking I found out I was actually the only non-smoker! I almost cancelled but Steve told us we could smoke in a convenient outdoor smoking area. The small hotel is located up on a hill within a 5 minute walk from the hustle and bustle of shops and bars downtown. The room rate includes a different breakfast every day and a nice bowl of fruit and some decent coffee. The rates were reasonable as Cabo is now almost all highrise hotels and condos. If you arrive by air be prepared to get hustled at the aiport by the guys offering free return rides to the airport. If you are not the gullible type you could try to beat them at their own game. The standard routine is you sit through 1-2 hours of excrutiating sales pitch at one of the hotels whilst they feed you breakfast, afterwards you get to use their pool(and towels)and basically pretend you are a guest. My brother and his girlfriend did this at the Palmar. I work in sales, don't believe in timeshares and would rather spend every hour of my vacation time vacationing so I have very little tolerance for this thing. If you play it right you do get some perks and there is no obligation to buy into anything. So we stayed at the Bungalows and hung out at the beach and poolside bar at the Palmar! Otherwise as far as hotels go...if I wanted to spend big bucks I would stay at the Finisterra, a more mature crowd, but it is on the opposite beach and feels much more remote, I wasn't there during the day but I didn't see the swarms of beach peddlars that parade in front of you on Playa Medano. One restaurant Reccomendation before I go. I stumbled onto El Pollo de Oro on Av. Morelos, not much for decor but good honest food, andthe best Pina Coladas and Margaritas in town. Have Fun.

I've just returned from CSL myself.
I was interested if anyone else was approached on the street-no not for Drugs or Prostitutes, but to post palpably untrue reports on this board.
Were the offers of cash and travel honored?
Do you feel unclean lying like you do or does your long-time assocciation with Time-Share Vultures mean you lost any scruples long, long ago!
I couldn't do it myself but was just wondering how you sleep at night?
To No Shill Me - Carolyn is a legit. tourist to Cabo San Lucas who had contacted me via email with regard to suggestions as to where to stay and I recommended the Bungalows. She does not deal in Time Shares and has nothing to do with anything related to these but is rather in Motorcycle sales in NE US. She was kind enough to give an honest posting regarding her time in Cabo and you must remember that the people that she was travelling with had never been to a place such as this so, as "first-timers" they were taken in by the time share people. To assume that this is a con is unfair.

Check out the Mar de Cortez - http://www.mardecortez.com - Its very in expensive and right downtown. Its not a luxurious place(not TV,phone, roomservice, etc)but just down the street from Cabo Wabo.

SD

Judi
I stay at the Villas Del Palmar every time I go. It is just your average resort in Cabo, there are definately nicer ones in Cabo. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't suck but there is nothing great about it either. If there are specific questions you have ask away...

I had fun in Cabo. Its a teeny bit expensive but you can still find good bargains out there. Now as for the timeshare they come in all sizes, shapes, and colours and they have good and bad. My friends bought one and enjoy it and get good use out of it and use it every year. Deja on her timeshare trip and shouldn"t be so judgemental. Deja we all have an opion you have yours and I have mine. Deja they come in all sizes high, low, medium. Live and Let Live and lets enjoy the beaches.
