Bosque del Cabo GTG
 

Hey Fodor's adventurers and BDC fans, it is not too soon to start making plans for the 2nd (so far) biannual Get Together at beautiful Bosque del Cabo on the OSA Peninsula! Hipvirgochick, tully, shillmac, and Mr. Shillmac will be meeting up for a full (yes!) week July 2-9, 2011. We always have a great time together, but it's even more fun to meet others from this forum, sort of a big, extended, dysfunctional family! :)

July is typically a great time to visit, and someone in our group is SURE to have a close encounter with a puma! Who's in?!

Can you guarantee the puma? :-)

I can guarantee we'll take some goofy pics at the cat trap camera :) Hope we can meet up with some more fodorites this trip, we had a pretty good turn-out 2 years ago. Wine & bocas on the Miramar deck at sunset - good times!

Key word, dysfunctional. Yep, I'm there!

Oh and bring a tent to pitch on the Titi trail.

Special Feature: Mr. and Mrs. Shillmac will be leading a tour to the waterfall. Free of charge! :)

Note shillmac doesn't mention exactly how long that tour will take ;)

Anyone heard from Cam? Maybe she will be able to join us again this year.

Are you really going to do biannually? If so, I'll be there in 2013. Can't believe I'm going to miss this again :(

Just thought I'd post a link to Bosque del Cabo just in case http://www.bosquedelcabo.com/ Since the GTG will take place during the (US) July 4th holiday, we plan on gathering a couple of those lightening beetles and releasing them in celebration.

I am assuming that during the heat of the summer,most will be having a cool Imperial.! :)

Deb - No guarantees but again a puma with cub seen in the tropical garden last time I checked in. They are being seen more and more which is awesome!

plumboy - You never know! Got a good thing started here so it might just end up being a biannual tradition.

Bringing this thread to the top in case any newbies on the forum are planning for July. It's been great meeting some of the "names" here on the forum over the past few years.

shillmac did you alert the editors of the GTG dates? Hopefully they will send us some goodies again this time (the lighter the better!)

Love the lightening beetles idea--Stars and Stripes Forever, Bosque del Cabo style! Seriously, it would be fun to have a special celebration of some type. . .let's see what we can cook up!!

I'm trying to put together a trip for extended family for this June...including my first grandbaby who is almost 2 years old. We are hoping to go to Yosemite this June. But someday when she's older I'm hoping we can take her along with family to Bosque del Cabo to see monkeys.

I'm already looking forward to reading the trip reports when you all return!

Puma alert! Cub seen crossing the lawn at BDC this morning. :-)

Just thought I would top this for anyone considering a trip in July.

And to mention the beautiful shot of a puma right on the stairs at the Manglillo cabina today, posted on Bosque's Facebook page. Definitely up close and personal.

OK tully...u got me all excited. But I can't find the puma pic. I joined the FB group, but can't seem to get to the correct spot.

So are there still cabinas available or have the confirmed GTG participants taken up the whole place already? LOL

I've got commitments in the U.S. that week. Darn. Have a great time, and keep me in mind for 2013. :)

Oh sorry missed the 2nd part of your post. As far as I know they should have availability, so far we're only taking up the house, Miramar. I think we ended up having like 5 or 6 fodorites last time, hopefully even more this time. Maybe you can join us!

Deb, that would be awesome! I'm sure it goes without saying, but the GTG element of the week isn't at all constrictive. :)

If anyone out there is thinking, "Oh heck, I don't want to spend a week with these fruitcakes (!), I want to do my own thing"--well that's exactly what all of us do. Even tully, hipvirgochick, Mr. Shillmac, and I don't hang together all that much-other than sharing the same house and deck- although we enjoy one another's company and get along great.

In 2009, the owners of BdC provided snacks and wine and we all gathered at Miramar for a Pre Happy Hour Happy Hour. Nothing is organized, although we might end up sharing an activity or two as happens all the time with any group of guests.

This Fodor's board has produced some terrific friendships, even strong ones. Just last week I was visiting my daughter who lives not far from tully, and we had our own little mini GTG as we have done many times. It amazes both of us that, hey, we met on a travel forum and we have a really nice friendship. Hip is a part of that, as is plumboy, we stay in touch frequently.

So the GTG's are in the spirit of fun, but total freedom! And what better place to meet someone you already "sort of" know than Bosque del Cabo!

Hope you can come.

Jeff, 2013 for sure. And hey, maybe sooner. . we'd love for you to come visit when we get settled!

I would love to join you guys but this summer won't work. We have made 2 dry season visits and would love to do a wet season visit some day. Maybe next year, so I will have to keep my eyes open for future GTG dates.

You'll be the group photographer at the next GTG! We're going to tentatively try for every 2 years. . .so 2013! Keep your wet season schedule free! :)

We are going for the first time in March can you guys tell me the shortcut to the waterfall on the beach - we are so excited - I have wanted to stay here forever! My husband has a bad foot so if there is a shortcut I would love to know it!!!! THANKS!!!

Okay, well this is weird to say, but sounds like we might ought be planning 2013 right away. If we could just decide on a date, everyone can make it a priority. Percy, you too! And I don't think securing a tentative date would be any problem at all right now. Tully?

I just think it would be so awesome to have one really BIG GTG!

I'd love to meet up with you all on the Osa and do a hike together during your stay there, if you don't mind a local joining in the fun.

We have several things planned for summer...and this year the travel budget is just about empty. I hate that darn B word anyway. But I'll be thinking of you lucky lucky people!!

Ballardo I'm still bummed I didn't get to introduce myself to you, last trip in Carate in the chaos of the colectivo coming & going, but we will meet up! As July gets closer we'll have to figure out something.

Percy I'm not sure CR banks will allow a money transfer that big to cover the drinks :) Just kidding. For all of our talk, I think we're an incredibly tame bunch - I'm usually up and making coffee by 5am so 1 daquiri is usually my max!

2013? Sure I'm in, I'm so easy :) Toni & Jeff & Percy and anyone else who can't make this one mark it down now, figure July, can't fathom the dates just yet tho'.

Also, according to the thread over at the lounge, we are all in extreme danger with the puma showing up sometimes 2-3 times a month on the grounds, and are not to be in awe. Darn wild animals, how dare they ;)

Helloooo Fodor friends!!! Long time no chat.....we're going to the OSA!!!!! But......not until next Xmas, anyone there then? I hope you've all been well, sorry to highjack the thread by the way. But I just wanted to touch bases and say hello to everyone, I missed my Fodor friends. We r still happily traveling with Bella & Will, off to Roatan in 2 weeks, spent Xmas there as well. Kids are now divers & when offered a trip between Costa Rica, Panama or Roatan....Roatan won. Certified divers at 12 & 14, pretty cool! Momma stayed topside btw. I hope u r all well & happy.
