worst question ever

I think my earlier question must be the worst one ever, because it seems to be the only one in the top 200 that isn't getting answered! I searched this, and other boards to figure out where to go on a day trip from Civitavecchia (have spent time in Rome, including Tivoli, Castegandolfo, Frascati). I think Orvieto and Viterbo sound great but finding it hard to figure out how to get there since trenitalia doesn't have direct trains. Can you hire taxis for the day at the port? How about buses? We are there on a Monday so unfortunately Tarquinia & Ostia Antica's sites are closed. We'll be there in 3 weeks so I'm starting to feel the need for a plan!

toni, reword it with the name Civitavecchia in the title, otherwise it will be ignored.

The point of Toni's post was that she DID put "Civitavecchia" in the title of her original post but it's being ignored anyway.

Toni, I think that you're not being "ignored," it's just that you're asking for very specific information that very few people would have.

My original message title is Civitavecchia to Viterbo/Orvieto. I'll try to bump it up later and give it one more try. But, I thought a second post with a different title might catch someone's eye.

I'm assuming you're talking about a single day off a cruise ship. Not that many of us here are cruise experts, I suspect and you're asking about something most of us couldn't answer because we've never been "stationed" in Citavecchia. My usual answer is to take the option from the ship as it is the only way to really assure yourself you're not going to get messed up trying to do public transport and end up missing your ship. But that probably isn't the answer you're looking for.
Maybe post this on the cruise board?

Uh, excuse me..your question has not been "ignored"..in fact there were several answers to it..perhaps ones that didn't make sense or that you didn't like?????????

Plenty of people here have cruised..some just won't admit they've EVER been in any sort of "group travel" experience...but I would suggest you go to cruisecritic.com or cruise-addicts.com and look at THOSE message boards...they are MUCH MUCH more active for this very question than the "Cruise" board here.

Uh, excuse me TopMan, but at the time ToniL posted this (4:05 pm today) the only responses she had gotten to the other post were "topping". Hardly the responses one could get excited about!
Those other posts have been added as a result of this post, or at least they were posted since she posted this one.

Hi toni,

I didn't ignore you.

I looked for buses, but couldn't find anything useful.

toni, ira and I both topped your thread and posters came through. Remember that these posts sink fast and that day time people are not often the same as at night, except for those at work who should maybe not be on line all day and those of us who are retired, layed-off or whatever, so that means, it's ok to top your own post to get more answers.. Everyone does it.

I too so that post and did not have any good answer. The fact is it is hard to see Italy from a cruise ship. For your scenario, hiring a private driver is your only good answer, and that will be about 300E.

A few years ago we were on a small ship that was stuck in Civitavecchia because of a storm. They arranged a trip to Tarquinia, which has a great museum amd Etruscan shaft tombs. It's worth going to.

Thanks for all of your help, and the info regarding topping. Yes, we are on a cruise with my parents. We have spent a few weeks in Rome and visited some of the surrounding area, so we want to try something different. I haven't had luck on the cruise types of boards - perhaps these aren't places that are often accessed by people in port, when there are so many other options close to Rome. Thanks again!
