Work abroad

Hello to anyone that can help.
I am a therapeutic recreationist here in canada and am very interested in working abroad (Ireland being one of my main choices) My problem is that I want to work in my profession and I have no idea where to start finding info. If anyone can give me some direction I would really appreciate it.
Joellyn

How exciting! I did the same thing by moving to London, England from Canada for a few years. It was quite the adventure but a little daunting at first, so I'd be glad to help you where I can.

First, I would suggest that you look into work visas, without which you will not be able to work abroad. Check with the consulates of the respective countries you are investigating.

After you have determined whether you are eligible for a work visa, you can then see what the job markets are by checking internet recruitment sites and the sites of local recruiting companies.

I don't know how much detail you're looking for, so if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at the above address.

Joellyn,
You posted this query a couple months back and if you're still around . . . are you eligible for dual citizenship in Ireland? Recently read that American citizens who can prove Irish heritage (parent or grandparent) can apply for dual citizenship. I don't know if Canadians are also afforded this opportunity. If a parent or grandparent was born in Ireland you need either their birth or marriage certificate along with application to get listed in "foreign registry". Then you can apply for a passport. With dual citizenship it's much easier to work & reside in any of the EU countries.
If Joellyn is still looking, a good Canadian firm to contact is www.medhunters.com They specialize in placing healthcare personnel, particularly allied health personnel, around the world. I'm not sure if "therapeutic recreationist" is one of the categories they handle, though.
