MUC to Marienplatz
Arriving 9a on Saturday morning in May, flying Delta, just the 2 of us with manageable luggage. First time in MUC and would appreciate the process and cost upon arrival to take the train to Marienplatz. Would only need public transportation for the balance of that day if that should impact which ticket purchased.
Understand trains leave fairly regularly and wondering what time one can expect to board train provided everything goes smoothly upon deplaning.
Thanks in advance...bdj

Thanks...
The hotel is a 3 minute walk from the Marienplatz thus the bus option is eliminated.
A couple of questions, if you will:
Has anyone done this route and can tell me what time I can expect to board the S-Bahn if everything goes smoothly from a Delta arrival at 9:10a?
What can I expect to pay for the train and is there a day-card that will permit the airport transport and public transportation for the balance of the day?

Maybe by 10:30, depends on the lines, if you aren't waiting for luggage it speeds up the process. Sometimes the lines to get your passport stamped are short, sometimes long.

another link that should be helpful. We buy a Bayern pass if we are traveling by rail. It is a better deal for us but you have to go after 9:00 am.

Yes, I have done the route several times. Nobody I know of who isn't lying can tell you what time you can expect to get on the S-Bahn, Why? As was said immediately above, there are simply too many factors to consider.
The lines for immigration may be slow or fast moving. Are you checking luggage? if so, how long is that going to take to appear?
You say your hotel is "3 minutes" from the Marienplatz? Which hotel are you talking about?
The ticket machines will give you an option of buying a ticket from the airport or a day ticket which includes the cost of taking the train into the city from the airport and then using that ticket for the rest of the day.
The machines give the choice of languages and are really self-explanatory in terms of how to use them. They will take cash and cards.

flpab...
Appreciate the guesstimate. In each instance of researching a new major European airport the responses have not only been fairly accurate but invaluable in managing a hectic initial day.

You don't need to worry about when you will get on the S-Bahn - it'll be approximately 10 minutes after you pick up your luggage. You just follow the sign with the white S on a green background and get a ticket from the machines (which are multilingual). Trains leave from the same platform. Either line will take you to Marienplatz, but S8 is a bit quicker (and, if memory serves, a bit more frequent).

If you want to speed up the process, you can get your ticket for the S-Bahn online and print at home.
flpap gave the correct link already:
http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/ticket...ty-day-ticket/
Since you are two people you can choose the "Group" ticket which is a bit less expensive than two "Single".
It's a day pass for the entire Munich transport network, including buses, trams and subways in Munich.
Delta arrives at Terminal 1.
It's a very short walk from the jetway to passport control.
Baggage claim is directly after passport control.
In Munich, the average waiting time for first bag of luggage is 20 minutes after a plane's arrival at the gate. With a big plane you obviously wait a bit longer when your bag is one of the last ones.

S-Bahns leave constantly - like Dukey says forget timetables and take either S-1 or S-8 whichever comes first as they both go to the same places in central Munich - one goes one way around Munich and the other the other but both end up in the exact same Marienplatz S-Bahn stop.
