Where to stay in Venice? Help me choose between three places. :-)
Hello all!
So I've done my homework and am hesitating between 3 places to stay in Venice with my hubby in mid-May (three nights). We will be arriving my train and leaving by plane.
Which one of these places would you choose? Also, how easy is it to get to the airport?
http://www.cadellacorte.com/fr/ (We love the fact that we can walk from the bus station and that it's in the Dursoduro)
http://www.corte1321.com/fr/description.htm (Read good comments on this place on the forum)
http://www.locandabarbarigo.com/ (My cousin has rented this place for May also and sent me the link...)
Merci!

Interesting. The first and third websites were designed by the same person. Some of the same stock photos were used in obvious places. I've never seen that before. Maybe #1 and #3 are connected in some way.
Barbarigo is closest to everything. For a mere three-night stay, a convenient home saves you time and gives you time to linger.
Getting to the airport is a piece of cake. Easy depends on your budget. The easiest (and most fun way) to the airport is by boat. A private one will cost substantially more than the Alilaguna. But there are other options, too. The best choice will likely depend on a combination of where you choose to stay and your budget.

Ca Delle Corte seems a bit too close to P.le Roma for me, but looks lovely.
We have stayed at an apartment in San Polo near the Corte 1321 property and enjoyed the area.
Locanda Barbarigo looks quite charming as well. It is a bit closer to Piazza San Marco but tucked away enough on a smaller calle.
Venice is small enough that getting to and from places of interest if you stay in San Polo is not that much of a problem.

Looks lovely Dukey, but a bit over our budget...
General question: I'm hesitating between 2 or 3 night in Venice... Before that, we'll be in the slovenian julian alps... I know it's very subjective, but what is your take?

While Ca della Corte is technically in Dorsoduro (just over the border) it is at the other end of Dorsoduro from the areas that most visitors prefer. On my first trip to Venice I stayed in that general vicinity and it's perfectly fine, though as you have already seen, some will find the position near Piazzale Roma, which you value, to be an undesirable feature.
I prefer the San Polo location, but I prefer in general to avoid San Marco. If you want to be close to most sights of interest, the Barbarigo location is the one to choose.

If your only choices are 2 or 3 nights, then definitely 3 nights. There is a lot to see and do in Venice even if you don't take some time to just wander, which is one of the best activities in the city.

I stayed at Ca' della Corte--eeps--nine years ago. It was really inexpensive in those days. Yes, good location to walk to/from the station. In a charming little courtyard. Nice lady running the place; it felt very old-fashioned. She treated my friends and me like we were her daughters (and that included a bit of lecturing ).
I prefer this location in Dorsoduro to the part many here enjoy because it felt a bit "younger" and livelier to me. If you stay at Ca' della Corte, you will feel some trepidation on your walk to the hotel because you pass some big, not-charming buildings. Then you take a left and it's the Venice you have always imagined. We loved Campo San Pantalon, hung out at Campo Santa Margherita, etc. FWIW, I've stayed at Locanda Calcina in Dorsoduro too and it's very nice, but I like the part of the sestiere that's closer to San Polo/Santa Croce. A bit more workaday (for Venice).
I'd choose one of the Cortes. I don't like staying by San Marco. Waaay too hectic for me. But some people love it, so horses for courses. I'm sure you'll have a great time regardless of where you book!

Wow! Thanks so much! And three night it is!
Actually, we always prefer less "touristy" spots everywhere we travel. We would rather stay a whole afternoon in a small local café rather that do the traditional gondola thing!
What is Piazzala Roma? The station?

P. le Roma is open paved area where all the ground transport ends at the end of the causeway. If you look at a google map, you'll see it.
The train station is either listed by the name Santa Lucia or generally Ferrovia (train)

I've stayed at Corte 1321 and thought it was terrific. Nice hosts, large and well furnished rooms and bathroom (VERY large), and great location. The patio was nice for relaxing with a glass of wine and snacks and also when eating breakfast.
I now prefer staying in an apartment though. I like the space and the option of preparing my own meals. Here is where I have stayed several times, the beautiful Palazzo Foscarini-

Anna, the owner, is very good to work with. The apartment has a small balcony overlooking a private garden below. The bed is comfortable. The apartment is located near the Ai Carmini apartments you mention above. I like the area (just off the Campo Santa Margarita, in the heart of the Dorsoduro) and it is an easy 10 minute walk to the P. Roma or the train station.

I forgot to add-
The advantage of a 10 minute easy walk to P. Roma is that you can catch the Airport Express bus from there. The ride to the airport is 15-20 minutes and costs about 3-5E (I can't remember the exact amount). The bus begins running at 5:00am. From P. Roma, you can also catch a land taxi to the airport. But, the bus is nice and takes the same amount of time. I always take the bus.
