I'll be right over :)

Marianna Oct 29th, 2004 01:49 PM

What time is dinner, Marcy? Please tell us the artichoke recipe - sounds great!

Mimi, I lost all the email addresses also. Maybe Seafox, Dave, Nikki or anyone else who went to the Boston GTG can send them to us. If not, we will have to plan to meet sometime - my mom lives in Somerville and MIL in Cambridge so we are always in the area.

Just finishing off a bottle of Dr. Bürklin-Wolf 2002 Estate Riesling (our favorite German vineyard) and watching Jackass the movie on SkyTV. The perfect combination, no?

I'm looking forward to a 3-day weekend. TGIF and TGIBavaria! If the weather cooperates tomorrow, I'm we're off to Karwendel www.karwendel.com for a hike. Last chance to hike before the snow stars flying :-)

marcy_ Oct 29th, 2004 02:13 PM

Mimi and Marianna-
Y'all come on over-- we'll throw a few more on to cook!

Seriously, I'll try to post the recipe for the artichokes later. They're to die for!

I'm so lucky to have a husband who spoils me by doing most of the grocery shopping and cooking.

kswl Oct 29th, 2004 02:20 PM

Scarlett, do you think it's too strong for a 12-year-old? We saw the trailer on our computer with the hand emerging from the back of Sarah Michelle Gellar's head. Does it get worse?

i_am_kane Oct 29th, 2004 02:31 PM

From Trumbull, CT: Finally, the last day of work! Came home with a pizza (half eggplant, half crumbled sausage). Opened the mail. Received the following books: Andrea Bocelli's memoir "The Music of Silence." (I will see him live in concert on November 12th.) Oriana Fallaci's "The Rage and The Pride" and her "A Man", plus Anita Daniel's "I am going to Italy." Now all I need is the time to read these wonderful books!

Will watch a movie from Netflix tonight, go to my grandson's soccer game tomorrow (if it doesn't rain).

That's as far as I can think right now.

What are you doing right now??

Well what the h*ll do you think I'm doing right now? Staring at the bleedin' computer screen. Like that's a new thing in my pathetic life. ;)

No, really, have been gangpressed into housework on what ought to have been a welcome Friday off work (making up for several days of extra effort. If they don't like it, tough.) Company coming for early supper, then she & spouse are off to the opera for Rigoletto. Ah shucks, la donna e mobile.

Meanwhile I await the email containing the verdict of the AA RTW desk's consultations with the Tariff desk to learn how much our long-planned RTW is going to set back the lovely people at Visa. I have a bottle of a decent if not premium malt whisky close to hand, also a fainting couch.

ilovelabs2003 Oct 29th, 2004 02:39 PM

I am about to go out to dinner with hubby and friends after spending the day with seventh graders on their Halloween sugar highs!

I am also thinking of Hugh and Colin since I just read the Brigid Jones thread!

Marianna Oct 29th, 2004 03:04 PM

Marcy, and I could invite you for chicken with mango coconut sauce! I would love to have the recipe for the artichokes - I love artichokes. My husband is like yours - he loves to cook and will grocery shop also. He is a sweetheart...even after 35 years of marriage!!!

Mimi, are there? We can go to Marcy's together.

SeaUrchin Oct 29th, 2004 03:11 PM

I'm sitting here at the office once again with my feet crossed on the desk (wearing jeans and maroon sweater this time) looking out of the window and at the computer.

Tonight I am going to a Tibetan restaurant for some of their delicious and tasty dishes. It has such a serene atmosphere with Tibetan music and artwork, I'm looking forward to it.

beachbum Oct 29th, 2004 03:38 PM

Gardyloo, if you'd care to share the verdict, I'd be interested in knowing. But, of course, only after you've properly recuperated from the shock.

Just got home - drinking a Diet Rite cola, wishing it was a good glass of Pinot Noir!!
Waiting for DH to return home tonight from a trip to Russia.....hopefully he brought me some goodies.
I wish I was having a lovely dinner like above posters, but it looks like sandwiches or frozen something from freezer for my 9 year old son and I.Too tired to cook or go out!
Just trying to plan a quick getaway to Chicago for a long weekend.
Have a great Friday everyone.
Anne

Me. I'm at home on a "day off" which was grand. Tomorrow I return to my most stressful job(I returned to the lesser one Tuesday) after three weeks in France. I'm holding on to the feeling of France and hoping to hold onto it for quite awhile. In the meantime, I'm baking a pumpkin cheesecake tomorrow for our potluck on Sunday (all glory to nurses who work all the holidays) and hoping to simmer up a big pot of spaghetti sauce over the weekend. Tonight we're hitting our favoirte neighborhood Italian restaurant before the 7 pm show of "The Motorcycle Diaries". I'm hoping to pull our garden a bit together this weekend as well. BTW, since we all work in an ICU we have to dress somewhat lightly over our scrubs. Me..I'm wearing a tiara a very big sapphire necklace and hoping to be mistaken for French Aristocracy. Look closely beyond those latex gloves.

cigalechanta Oct 29th, 2004 04:00 PM

Marianna, how was dinner. Sorry I missed it but had to go to home depot.
Sea Urchin, We have an Afganistan restaurant that is very good.
Pam, I can picture you in your tiara.
Years ago I worked in an OR office and my friend, the OR nurse dressed as a mummy for our lab party but when she had to use the toilet , it was hilarious removing her bandages that were over her body stocking.
I love stuffed artichokes.
Will avoid the crowds here and watch the RED SOX parade on Tv.
Whatever your doing relax or have fun!!

Amy Oct 29th, 2004 04:04 PM

(Whispering) I have snuck away from a gigantic pile o' tests that I am grading in order to have a little vicarious travel fix...

Plans this weekend? Fall housecleaning of the garden, weekly scrub of the house, make my Christmas card prototype, bake a cake, and finish the ... (word deleted here) papers! (I love teaching, but right now I am dreaming of being a manioc farmer in the Peruvian Amazon.)

Scarlett Oct 29th, 2004 04:04 PM

kswl, it was pretty creepy. A friend with a 13 year old who saw it, said that he wanted to sleep in his parents bedroom that night.
We need a recipe thread on Fodors..think of all the wonderful dishes from around the world that we could share ... not just Southern :)
I want to artichoke recipe please ~ ((F))
anne, I had a lovely Pinot with dinner tonight :)

annesherrod Oct 29th, 2004 04:23 PM

Scarlett......I am envious! I am just sipping down the remnants of my luke warm soda. Or some of you call it "pop"

I recieved My CookingLight magazine in the mail and on the cover was a Pecan Pie!!! Now, Scarlett, you being a southerner and all, how can a Pecan pie be "light"?
I need to go pop in some frozen yuck in the oven now for my little guy - I feel like a bad mom tonight. As Arnold says...I'll be back!

Scarlett Oct 29th, 2004 04:27 PM

Anne,
I have never made a pecan pie ( my grandmother used to make me go pick the damn pecans then she would bake one) but I do like them. I just saw a recipe in Real Simple for Chocolate Pecan Pie..sigh~

I stopped at Barnes & Noble to read this week's New Yorker and unwind from work. I just finished making a list of shows I'd like to see. I realized I won't be able to go away this fall. So tomorrow, I am going into NYC to pick up theatre tickets for various venues to enjoy during the week off. Sunday I have volunteered to usher at a local theatre matinee performance, but I'll be outside for a long walk in the morning.
Suzie- I "coccooned" last weekend. Perfect descriptive word choice.

Carlos- lucky you! Love Puerto Rico. Every hotel bar claims to have invented the Pina Colada. Try a cubano- the pressed sandwich, a cold pulpo salad, and if you cook buy a carved pelon(mortar & pestle). Hope you'll be able to take some long walks, and see El Morro, watch the old men play checkers in the plazas of Old San Juan. Enjoy!

Gardyloo Oct 29th, 2004 05:23 PM

Beachbum, apparently it's in the queue at AA awaiting the attention of the Grand Inquisitor and his staff. So, said whisky now needs to be applied as an anti-anxiety nostrum. Bad luck.

Actually, I already know the base price of the ticket. What's in play are the various taxes and fees, which as you know vary from airport to country to airline. With 20 flights on four carriers over four continents, there's a lot of beans to be counted.

If you're curious about RTW ticket pricing, one of the regulars at flyertalk.com has performed a minor miracle and loaded the various programs and prices into a dandy Excel spreadsheet which you can download here: http://qsi.cc/users/wbt/RTW%20Fares.xls

Note pricing changes from time to time, so this should only be used as a guide, and again, does not include taxes or other fees. In addition, you'll need to be familiar with the rules of the various programs - see the "global alliances" board at flyertalk to learn more.
