david_west,
I would certainly agree, that if you have never seen greyhounds racing one should do that.
Please make a contribution to the local GH rescue society on their behalf for care and adoption after their working years - these are truly the "best" of all the critters - and, consider adopting one or more if your circumstances permit.

Another ttt.

Spend some time at Hamley's -and remember you are NEVER too old to be a kid at heart.

Enjoy watching the buskers (street performers)-and don't forget to leave them a little money.

See a play at the Globe

Ride a Black Cab (at least once)

I FORGOT to add:

Visit a grocery store. (I think the one I really like is called Tesco...but they are all great) -

you will be AMAZED how much nicer they are then in the US. What we would have to go to a gourmet specialty store for - they have it right there on their shelves! Great place for pic-nic supplies! (i.e. potato chips "crisp" in every flavor imaginable)

Bravo, mikemo, for bringing up the plight of the greyhounds. They are wonderful dogs. What happens to many once they are done racing is appalling.

Grocery stores are a great place to save money as compared to dining at a restaurant. Tesco, Sainsbury among others.

3 weeks for me. I'm going to print this and take it along!

Londonholly Jul 28th, 2004 04:25 AM

22 days until I (hopefully, everything is arranged but you never know) go again to my favorite city! It`s a great idea to print this out! I love this forum!

For me, it's ONE MONTH from TODAY, I'm off to London!!! Yeah!! I've already copied this entire thread in Word, and I also plan to print it out and bring it with me.

Take the tube out to Kew Gardens, in Richmond, I think. Such a great public garden, even in the winter!!

Hampstead Heath - take a sandwich, something to drink, and picnic all day. No bugs, such a pleasure. (what do you UK folks do with all your insect life, anyway? Please send Atlanta, GA the secret)

Nude swimming holes at Hampstead Heath - sexes segregated.

There are SO many as London is one of my favorites. But here is a short list (in no particular order)

Indian food (when we go, we eat 9 meals out of 10 as Indian)
Wallace Collection (eat lunch there as well)
Sir John Soane's Museum
British Museum
Greenwich (especially enjoyed London Walk's Greenwich Tour)
Cabinet War Rooms (increases your appreciation of WWII vets and the strength of Winston Churchill)
National Gallery
Tate Britain (for the art)
Tate Modern (for the architecture of the building)
Globe Theatre tour (haven't been in London at the right time to attend a play yet)

Katiebug- When you come back, you can post what all you have done & we can change your moniker to "katiedid"! You will have a great time whatever you choose, I'm sure. I have already seen several of my favorites here.
1. After walking all over, give your feet a rest- relax with a Thames cruise for a different perspective of the city.
That Tate-to-Tate cruise sounds good too
2. biscuits w/jam &clotted cream and a cheese shop stop.
3. Tate Modern, then walk across the bridge to St Paul's.
4. Find some great Indian restaurants
5. Don't forget to stop exploring to have a little lunch or tea & chat with the people around you.
6. Hop on the Tube and go out to Portobello or Camden Market, stroll, and talk to the vendors as you look. Some of my best conversations and understanding of London came there, not to mention a few items I use almost daily. stop to pick up finger food at a stall.
4. take the pub walk.
5. pop into a music store and pick something up
6. Enjoy a tour at Tower of London conducted by one of the yeoman. A little corny but very entertaining. Seeing this historic site will strike you silent for a bit.
7. see some local gardens
8. Enjoy the local newspapers.
Have fun.

On a sunny day like today:
having lunch in the park after buying this very special handbag/book whatever you wanted to buy for ages and feeling like the king of the world!

Enjoying one of the many markets (especially for food) i.e. spitalfields, borough market etc.

skatterfly Aug 20th, 2004 12:52 PM

ttt again :)

Londonholly Aug 22nd, 2004 01:11 PM

I am just back from London and I can only recomend the "Art of the garden" exhibition at the Tate Britain.(Just until the 30th of august!)
I liked it very much -and I do not even have a garden.

Katiebug Oct 15th, 2004 01:39 PM

Wow... I started this 7 months ago and everything has changed so much for me. Last year's trip was cancelled due to an emergency & I'm now re-planning a similar trip for May, 2005.

Shall we resume?

m_kingdom2 Oct 15th, 2004 01:49 PM

I'm sure very little has changed, and we've over 100 things so it is misadvertising the product.
