Vienna

Thanks to the help from this forum, our itinerary is coming along very nicely. We are now researching Vienna. Any ideas? We will be there for 3 full days. Dont forget our 11 year old grand-daughter? Cheers

There was a wonderful carnival at the Town Hall. Your granddaughter would probably enjoy it.

We stayed in the Museum Quartier and were so convenient to everything - I cannot recommend it more. Vienna is possibly the most beautiful city in Europe.

We visited Vienna for a quick trip three years ago. We stayed at Pension Pertsky. It was really charming and we had a triple room. It is right off the Graben and convenient to many sights. We had a lovely dinner at Ristorante Antinori (Italian owned by the Antinori wine family). We thought Vienna was a really a elegant city.

The Hundertwasser Museum is worth a visit and its non-rectilinear structure might appeal to an 11 year old. His apartment building is nearby. Think of him as Vienna's Gaudi, but post W.W.II

There is a ride park with a giant ferris wheel at the Prater Park. My daughter always remembers having 7 flavors of ice cream served in a long covered tray at the Steiereck which is a very famous restaurant in Vienna. They recently moved the restaurant to the Stadtpark.

If she likes animals, the Schönbrunn Zoo is nice (and has pandas!). Combine that with the Palmhaus and the palace/palace grounds...

Same animal condition: the Winter Riding School at the Hofburg. Has some appeal for adults, too.
