Venice Clock Tower
Please, does anyone know:
Does the clock tower or any other tower around San Marco have an elevator?
If you take the tour of the clock tower, can you go by elevator or is it all climbing?
Thanks, Debbie

i thought i remembered one but googled to be sure.
Around 1900 the clock tower crashed to the ground, killing one cat.

Don't even think about the Clock Tower for your people who won't walk and need water taxis!
Seriously, the Clock Tower requirea climbing in narrow spaces.
I think there's an elevator to the top of San Giorgio Maggiore, but it's not "around San Marco".

Can't help with the clock tower. It was scaffolded when we last were there. We did use an elevator to the top of the bell tower (campanile) and the view was excellent. Got some good pix including the Isola di S. Giorgio lighthouse (we're lighthouse fans)

Don't worry, Zerlina. Those people are more likely to take an elevator to a martini bar than to climb anything.
I was asking for my cousin who is afraid that her 5 year old (they are both my darling goddaughters) won't be able to do the climb. The rest of the family is athletic, but they are afraid the little one might poop out.
She is tall and so mature that she can generally pass for 6 or 7, and that will get her in a lot of places, but once she is in, they have to make sure she is able to do what is necessary, or mature enough to appreciate what she is seeing.
So, the campinile it is!

No, it's all climbing, but Tuscan, truthfully, it's not all that great a tour-I did it for the first time last September- I'd take the elevator at San Giorgio Maggiore and go up that bell tower-now THAT'S a view-and well worth the Euro, but none of us were impressed with the Clock Tower tour-too thin on history, not really much to see-you do go outside to get a view, but, obviously to your left side, is San Marco-with a much more interesting view, and of course, at SGM, which gets my vote, hands down, for best view, you have the elevator.

Well, the Clock Tower tour is totally out because goddaughter's kids (my own dear faux grandchildren) are 5, 8, and 12.
I told her about San Giorgio Maggiore. I wouldn't consider it far from San Marco, but she seems to think that they want to see see something right there.
I have been up the elevator in SGM a couple of times and agree that it is great. I'll just have to convince her that it is the way to go.
For the Campanile: does anyone know anything about tickets? I did a search for it, but couldn't find anything.

You know, Tuscan, I've never been up in the Campanile, I really just enjoy SGM's views so much-that's a good question about the advance tickets-if I see something on it, I'll let you know.
And as for the Clock Tower, again, I was not impressed by the tour at all, so I personally don't think you're missing anything at all.
