Only 2 weeks to go to our long awaited holiday.

I am wondering how easy is it to get from Venice Airport to our hotel - Hotel Lisbona. Our travel agent said to get the Alilaguna (public water bus) - is there a particular number bus, cost and how far from the airport are the water buses?

Any advice would be most welcome.

I suggest that you ask your hotel for directions from the nearest stop.

You can also take the bus to Piazzale Roma and a Vaporetto down the Grand Canal.

The easiest way is a water taxi from the airport dock directly to your hotel's dock. It is also the most expensive way at around 100 euros for up to 4 people with luggage. Of course, the more people you have, the less the per person cost is. You can also look at part of the cost as a travel experience--a private boat zooming across the lagoon directly to your hotel is definitely a nice feeling.

If you are taking a water bus from the airport (ferry operated by Alilaguna) then it is a ten minute stroll from the air terminal to the water bus, and water taxi, dock. It is easy and level going, but if you have bags on wheels, it is far easier to take an airport trolley for your bags, and lots of people do it. Can’t remember the cost for the Alilaguna water bus, but it is about 15 or 20 Euro. Bus to Piazzale Roma and vaporetto down the Grand Canal is quicker, but only by a quarter of an hour and likely a bit cheaper than the Alilaguna.

However, if you are not pressed for time, then the Alilaguna is a lovely, relaxed way to arrive. Takes about one hour to San Marco, and goes via Murano, so you get to see a bit of the lagoon. If you take the Alilaguna, get off at San Marco. From there, it will be a five minute walk to your hotel, with a couple of bridges to cross -- google maps shows it nicely.

(The costs noted on the hotel website are stale – they quote a water taxi at 75 Euro, and now it is 100 Euro, ditto for the Alilaguna costs.)

Thank you Peter - I think the Alilaguna sounds good. Any recommendations where to eat? Does one buy their ticket for the Alilaguna at the Port and is there any particular Alilaguna water bus we should take to get to San Marco?

If you check the Alilaguna link provided, you will see clearly the various routes that stop at San Marco: Blu, Rossa, and Oro. Blu and Rossa take 1 hour 12 minutes and cost 13 euros (12 euros in advance. on line). Oro is the quickest (1 hour) and costs more than the others (30 euros; 25 euros in advance online)--only you can decide if the additional cost is worth 12 minutes less travel time.

Venice does not have a reputation for fine food, which is a bit unfair. There’s lots of good food to be had, and maybe places have “dumbed down” their menus to suit the tourists.
Food quality increases, and prices reduce, in proportion to your distance from San Marco. Avoid places that post a menu written in 37 different languages, from Afrikaans to Zimbabwean, as you will likely be disappointed.
