Valencia to Requena by train or bus?
I am planning to go to Requena from Valencia for a daytrip during the Wine Harvest (Ferevin) end of August.
I wonder what is the best way to get there using public transportation.
I search renfe.com and it shows the only direct route is to Utiel-Requena which is about 7 miles away and the return schedule is either at 5pm (too early) or 930pm (too late).
Other train option would be something from a German site which I cannot buy online. This option requires Metro to Quart de Poblet station then take the train at Vara de Quart (not sure which train company to get the ticket at the station) Google street view of the area does not look promising.

Bus option would be MonBus which will take about 1 hr. But I can't seem to book online. I am guessing I can go to the Estacion de Autobuses station on that day and buy the tickets there.

Anyone has any idea or experience going to Requena from Valencia?
Thanks

The bus only takes an hour.. so I'd just go to the station as you mentioned and get your ticket. Shouldn't be a problem.
The AVE has a station at Requena but it has been shut down for lack of customers.

I may have that wrong. I was just reading now about reduced fare tickets on the AVE form Valencia to Requena so.. some trains must stop there still. The Renfe website is collapsed now due to horrific accident in Santiago de Compostela area.. so I can't seem to get any normal train information right now. I'll try later. Who knows. You may be able to take the AVE or a high speed train there.

Thanks for the info.
If I take the Requena/Utiel-Taxi route, would taxi be readily available in Requena after 8pm, to go back to Requena/Utiel?
If I take the bus route, is the bus company reliable?
It is horrible about the accident, thank you lincasanova for checking. Look forward to hearing more.

You can take the metro from Valencia to the local, edge of town, Sant Isidre station where the trains to Requena leave from. This is hte train stain in Valencia that services the route to Requena itself.
Metro 5.. then ticket to Requena RT.

The bus will also be reliable, though. Whichever way you decide to go.

these are commuter type trains with no reserved seating if it is like others I have taken to other cities the same distance away.
You can buy the ticket from a machine kiosk.. small bills and coins.. no 50E and in fact, the machines may not take 20E either. I know at one point 10E was the largest bill the machines at the main station accepted. You can buy the ticket anytime the day of travel .
Or you can buy it at the main train station ( del Norte) from a person at a window ( may take LOTS longer) and take the metro from there. Line 5 metro, going towards Torrent /Valencia Sud will pass Sant Isidre, as you can see on the map I sent you.
or buy it once you get to sant isidre station itself from a machine or person.
I am not sure if the metro station and Sant Isidre are now connected underground as planned or you walk a block to get to it. I have never used that station. There was a 3 million euro project, but I do not know if it has been developed.

I am also going to Ferevin (as I have done the previous 2 years!). It's a shame that it's going to be in the Recinto Ferial (a building described as having "about as much atmosphere as an airport terminal on a strike day" - rather than in the Avienda as before.
I don't see any trains to Requena from Valancia on the RENFE site though (only the fast train to Utiel-Requena). I think I shall take the bus.....
