If I was to concentrate in a 100 mile radius of London looking at history I would choose London itself, Windsor, StoneHenge, Iron age dwelling at Butser Hill en-route to The Historic Dockyards at Portsmouth ( a good day out ), Winchester, Salisbury, Canterbury

Postings about Edinburgh etc. although very historic you have to get there first ( over 400 miles ).

The last post suggests that Edinburgh is too far away, 400m. By my advanced mathematical reckoning thats about 1 hour in a modern plane, with easyjet, go etc it should also be cheap, if you book in advance.

Biggles, true, London to Edinburgh is one hour by plane. Plus travel time to the airport, plus two-hours-before check-in requirement, plus the usual delays, plus travel from the airport to Edinburgh city centre. The better part of a day, and Frank has only seven days.

I'd recommend day trips by train; many of the suggested places are only an hour to hour and a half from the center of London.
