Tuscany guide
Message: My husband & have just come back from a trip in Tuscany. We hired a man that was recommended on this website for our guide to show us around Florence. He reserved tickets for us in advance, picked us up where we were staying at Castello di Vicchimaggio (the town of Greve)and gave us a walking & driving tour of Florence. Alessandro is a very kind, friendly man who grew up in Florence & likes to show people his charming city. Alessandro speaks english quite well, and is very much a gentleman. He can show you the Chianti region & take you to wineries. He can take you to any of the surrounding hilltop villages in Tuscany and can show you things that aren't in the tour books. He knows where to take you for the best gelato in Florence, and where to buy your leather goods. I bought a beautiful leather jacket at The Leather School of Florence & was amazed by the quality of the leather & workmanship. I would highly recommend Alessandro, if your vacationing in the Florence/Tuscany region. You can email me for more details

Is it terribly crass to ask what such a service would cost? Do you rent such a person by the day, hour or by the week or how does it work? If you go someplace else where you stay overnight are you responsible for his expenses, too? Are you part of "his group" or is this a private service?
I work part of the year in Italy with a school and though we do all our own trips, I often get asked this by parents of our students who come from all over the world to visit junior, but would like to see more of Italy than the small town where the school is located.
Thanks in advance!

LJ,
You won't believe it but he's very reasonable. $25 per hour including car
If you're looking for overnight tours try somewhere else, but if you want to offer day tours to the students parents, he's the man. He can take you just about anywhere. Alessandro is not an art critic or a historian, but if you want a good tour contact him [email protected]
Please read this.

Message: Hi,
Just got back from Tuscany. We hired a private guide in Florence named Alessandro Cammilli. He was wonderful. A native of Florence, he speaks good english, & knows some of the off the beated path sights. He's very reliable, & very reasonbly priced at $25 per hour for two, $35 per hour for four. He furnishes the transportion, & can take you to Pisa, to the wineries in Tuscany, to good restaurants, to and from the airport, etc. Alessandro is a good italian driver, just don't watch any of the cars when in Florence. Our trip would not have been the same without Alessandro's help. He can even reserve tickets to museums in advance.
You can reach him [email protected]

Hi,
I found Alessandro through a referral on a travel message board (not sure which one). I research for 3-6 months before I take my vacations. I learn alot along the way. I stayed in Greve in Chianti, 12 miles south of Florence. I found an incredible deal for an apartment for a week in a beautiful castle with plenty of room..You can email me for more information on where I stayed, ate, what I saw in & around the Chianti area.
Alessandro's prices are $25 per hour for two, $35 per hour for four. This includes the car, but not the gas. The previous message I sent out was a misprint.

I think the point is not how much Mr.Cammilli charges but if it is worth to have a tour with him.I definitively respond Yes!He planned for us an amazing tour of the Chianti region.Through the Chianti Classico road he took us from Florence to Siena. We stopped to visit castles, farms and wineries. We could visit cellars and do some tasting. We had lunch in a very beautiful terrace in the hills. He made our day very special and we also tipped.I remind you his email:[email protected]
