Tuscan Sightseeing Base
My family of four and I are headed to Tuscany/Umbria after a week in Rome. I was curious if anyone knows of a nice hotel (preferably a mile or two out of a town, so as to not have to deal with parking) that could accomodate 4 people to a room, and would serve as a good base to see Siena, Chianti, Assisi, and Perugia.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I would recommend Fattoria Tregole in Castellina in Chianti (http://www.fattoria-tregole.com/tregole_eng.htm)
Not sure this would be a good base for all 4 places but definitely for Chianti and Siena. My family of 4 stayed here in June 2006 and really enjoyed it. It meets your requirements of being a mile or so out of town so that parking is not an issue. We stayed in the Aia Apartment which had two bedrooms, two bathrooms a kitchen and nice living room. We were gone for 3 weeks total, so it was really nice to have the extra space here. There is a pool and the breakfasts are good. Edith usually cooks dinner there atleast 2 nights a week. You don't have to go, but we found the food excellent and enjoyed meeting the other travellers.

Consider this:
http://www.villapolis.com/9554P1
The location in Sinalunga is a little more central to the places on your list. I don't have personal experience with the property.
There are three recent reviews (and photos) on Tripadvisor.com, but unfortunately all are in Italian. However, all three of these Italian posters rated Residenza del Borgo at 5 out of 5.

We stayed here last autumn. It's ideally suited for touring the Val d'Orcia, but may not work if you're only doing the areas listed.
La Fonte, Pienza

Lovely setting, with beautiful views over the Tuscan hills. About half a mile west of Pienza right off the highway. They have 3 two-bedroom apartments. 800eu/week. You park right outside your door. It's a working farm with pigs, goats, friendly dog and cat, and an off-key rooster.
There's a nice pool. (How old are the children? I don't believe the pool was fenced.) Breakfast was simple, but fine.
Kitchenette was adequate for reheating food and making coffee. We didn't really "cook".

Maybe a hotel is too restictive in terms of your search for accommodation . . . ? In the country, a family of four would do well in some kind of agriturismo and it will surely cost less than a hotel. Check http://www.bella-toscana.com
