Hi,
We are planning to go for our Honeymoon to Europe during the last week of October/ first week of November. We are interested in Spain, Greece or Italy. We cannot decide which place should we finalize for our honeymoon keeping in mind the weather.

No one here can predict the weather. You could look at weather in the places historically and also consider the activities that would interest you. (For example, November is not beach weather any of those place.)
Choose the country for the experience and the sights you want to see.

Late fall weather is always a gamble. Go where you want to go, not where you think the weather might be better.

The Costa del Sol in Andalusia boasts 320+ days of sun a year. Temperature will be anyone's guess since Europe is predicting the coolest summer in 200 years. And if that happens, Fall is gonna be a cool one.

Consider the length of day as well as temperatures/weather. This site ( http://www.mindspring.com/~cavu/sunset.html) will tell you the sunrise/sunset times in specific places on specific dates. In November in Europe it gets dark early. For example it will be dark by about five in Rome, a little later in Spain.

So given the likelihood of rain and short days I would pick more city locations- there will be more inside stuff to do and evenings in nicely lit cities are much interesting than the countryside. An itinerary with flexibility would be good - so you could do daytrips to small towns/countryside if the weather is good and be back in the city base in the evening.

If you have two weeks, at that time of year I think the 'classic' Italy itinerary of Rome, Florence, Venice makes sense. There are tons of various side trips from those places that are easy.

@ Isabel : heard Italy is the wettest in November so was concerned. Is Spain possible the way suggested.. Like city bases and then one day trips..

I think a good chance for sunny weather in November would be Rhodes since it's just about as far east as you can go and still be in Greece.

In Spain I would consider Seville, Cordoba, and Granada. Or Madrid/Segovia/Toledo. Or some combination. Someone mentioned the Costa del Sol but if it's not beach weather there's not much to do. The places I mentioned are all wonderful to stroll around outside if the weather is good, but have museums, churches, shopping, cafes, etc if it's not.

Best weather in Greece you can find on Rhodes, but also on Crete, which is the most southern point of Europe !!!!

Have been several times on Crete at the end of October snd it was sunny and warm during the day, colder at night.

The sea wasn't as warm as i would like for swimming, but i only was on the northern side of the island.
Southern Crete is known for it's warmer weather, compared to Northern Crete.

Crete has many interesting places to explore, and lovely cities such as Chania and Rethymno in the West.

Where to go depends upon your interests. The islands will be quiet in November, which is off season, but Crete will be livelier than most, except perhaps in the tourist resorts. If the weather is good you may still be able to swim.

If you are interested in seeing a few historical sights, concentrate your trip on the mainland, which will also be livelier, as unlike the islands it doesn't have an off-season. In addition to Athens many visitors enjoy seeing the Nafplio area, Delphi, and (further north) Meteora.

Greece comprises a fairly small geographic area, so temperature differences north to south are small. Think of it this way instead: coastal regions will be mild, while mountainous areas are cooler.

Hi so now we have finalized on the places we would like to visit.. We have decided on Athens, Nafplio, Santorini, Naxos. We would also like to do Crete.. But then we are thinking we may go over budget. We don't know which place to go first and so forth and how to go around the places. My husband and I would want to avoid driving.any ideas and suggestions. Please let us know. Thanks.

Combining Crete with Naxos and Santorini in late Oct/early Nov would be difficult, as all the summer ferries will have stopped by then, There is still a once-per-week ferry linking Santorini and Crete, running year-round on Saturdays.

There are express buses between Athens and Nafplio. You could also opt for a tour operated by one of the Athens-based companies Chat, Key, or G.O. — check out their websites on Google.

Will anything be open on the islands at that time of year? I don't think I would hose to visit the islands at that time of year...

I just Googled, and many of the tours to Nafplio run only through October, so you would most likely have to do it in the first week. Buses from Kifissos Station in Athens are primarily for Greeks, so run year-round.
