Traveling with a misdemeanor
Someone else posted something about this which made me wonder... my boyfriend has a misdemeanor on his record for carrying a "concealed weapon" in an airport (it wasn't, but they considered it to be so they charged him) about a year ago. He pleaded no contest, and it's all settled and taken care of. Does that have any affect on International travel? I really wouldn't think so, but it would just be TERRIBLE to be at the airport and they detain us. I'm trying to get him to call his lawyer but for some reason he won't (I think I scared him) and I cannot find ANYTHIN on the web about this. Anyone know anything? Please don't post if you're going to tell me this is a stupid question, ridicule me, or anything like that, it's just unnecessary. Any info on where to look would be good too, I've already searched faa.gov. Thanks!!

Unlike the poster on the other thread, it sounds like he has already faced the charges and taken care of this. That said, I wouldn't think it should matter, but if it makes you feel better, ask a lawyer just in case.

Thanks guys! No sooner did I post this did he call me and tell me he just called his lawyer - the lawyer said he should be fine but bring along the papers saying it was dismissed just in case. So I guess that's all we can do! Thanks again.

I'm no lawyer, but I'm trying to figure out why if he wasn't carrying one he would plead no contest. I thought that does put it on your record. It's ALMOST the same as admitting guilt.
If it's the same lawyer you want him to call that advised him to plead no contest to something he didn't do, I'd rethink that plan!

It would all depend on whether or not the record of the misdemeanor charge has been entered into a data base that is accessed by the folks at check in.
And don;t get too upset if after all of this supposition when he DOESN'T receive any extra attention!
