Train to Hann.Münden

Good Morning.
I am arriving in Frankfurt and need to get a train to Hann.Münden. How do I get to the train station after my arrival? Will it be cheaper and guarantee me a seat if I get the tickets in advance? If yes, do I go the the German DB website? I will be arriving Frankfurt in the morning. Thanks.

It will take about 3 hours from airport's Fernbanhof - long-distance train station, about a 15-minute walk from where you exit Immigration - 2 changes of trains required en route - yes www.bahn.de/en is the place to get schedules and book own tickets - 29 euros if book far enough in advance to get those limited in number discounted tickets -full fare walk-up about 65 euros -discounted tickets are train-specific and can't be changed so when flying in leave plenty of time for plane to be late or just buy a full-fare ticket upon arrival at airport train station. For lots on German trains check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

To be guaranteed a seat make an optional seat reservation when you buy your ticket.

Note: the only train you may want to reserve a seat on is the ICE Frankfurt Airport to Kassel (there are direct ICE trains from airport but at sometimes you have to go first to Frankfurt itself to connect with them - be sure to get one if possible leaving right from Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof to Kassel - the you have regional trains that may or may not even take reservations.

Again see www.bahn.de/en for all schedules.

No, it won't. You could, of course, book a saver fare ticket ("Sparpreis") but then you will be committed to a specific train. So, if your flight is late and you miss that train your ticket will be worthless. I'd rather bite the bullet and buy a flex fare ticket plus a seat reservation for the Frankfurt Hbf - Kassel Wilhelmshöhe leg (you can do that at the DB web site and print out your ticket). There is no reservation for the local train from Kassel-W. to Hannoversch Münden (a 15 min trip) but those trains are never full outside peak times.

Yes if want 40 euro maybe cheaper ticket try for the Sparpreis fare and leave at least a few hours extra for plane to be late, etc and if you miss and lose the non-changeable ticket you will only be out 29-39 euros (which is partically refundable I think, not sure) or as sla019 advises just land - go to train station in airport as ask for tickets for next reasonable available trains.

You of course buy a full-fare and fully flexible ticket to use on any ICE airport-Kassel train and the regional segment tickets to all in one online with seat reservation so you need to wait airport train station if there is a line.

And then just head for the train.
