train prices / ?1st class

Is there a difference in price in booking train tickets (ie from Florence to Venice) if you buy thro. Trenitala OR Raileurope or wait until you are in Florence and buy then?

I seem to be getting different prices on the 2 sites or else I am doing something wrong...(I understand 1st cl. Vs. 2nd cl.)
I was told its better to go 1st class..??

Again, any info. is appreciated

Yes. RailEurope (typically) has a substantial markup. Wait util you are there.

Best wishes,

Hi L,

For Florence to Venice buy 2 cl tickets either on www.trenitalia.com or wait until you get to Florence SMN, if you don't know when you will go.

The price is the same.

Raileurope is a ticketing agency. They cost more.

Thanks! I thought the price on raileurope was higher. Thanks for clarifying

I assume that it's not a problem to buy a ticket about 1 hr. before the train leaves from florence to venice?
or is it better to buy it the day before?
Is the train station the only place to buy it?
And you are saying that 2nd cl. is OK?
(2 females a little over 40yr.!)

You can buy them as soon as you get to Florence, either at the rail station or at any local travel agency.

1st Class compartments generally have fewer seats in the same space as 2nd Class; 2nd will probably fill up sooner because it is generally cheaper.

1st cl for an ES train on this route will be 39.25 Euro and 2nd cl will be 26.6 E. This includes your seat reservation. 2nd cl is fine and you can always get up and go to the dining car if you need to stretch your legs.
