Restaurant car trains leave Salzburg at 0622, 0831, and then every two hours to 2031 and take two hours ten minutes through beautiful scenery to Innsbruck. A train that leaves at 0959 makes fewer stops, and reaches Innsbruck at 1151.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to Europe.

Ben Haines, London

Gaurav,
I checked my book. The book is a bit old ,but the timings should be the same.
Dep.Salz. 7.48 8.45 10.19 11.11 12.14
Dep.Zell - 10.33 - 12.49 -
Arr.Inns 9.50 12.50 12.21 14.42 14
Route via Zell am See is one of the most scenic rides in Austria offering exceptionally beautiful views of gorges, lakes, mountains and rivers.

Parag in Mumbai is right: the trip via Zell am See takes you through mountains, while the direct trip for which I gave times runs through Bavarian meadows. Both routes are beautiful, but that via Zell am See is the more dramatic. I think Parag may be using the valuable Thomas Cook European Timetable. The current edition shows these trains. Most of them have buffet cars.

Salzburg 0905, Innsbruck 1235
Salzburg 1018, Bischofshofen 1117 to 1156 Innsbruck 1435
Salzburg 1305, Innsbruck 1635
Salzburg 1418, Scharwarzach St Veit 1534 to 1610, Innsbruck 1835
Salzburg 1705, Innsbruck 2035

It is a sign of global times when a computer man in Bombay can sketch a better route in Austria than a Londoner did.

Agar men awr madat ker sekta hun, meherbane se likhye.

Ab ka

Ben Haines, Vilayeti

Another vote for the scenic route outlined above by Parag and Ben. O.K. it takes an hour or so longer, but it really is worth it, and I've done both routes a couple of times. If I ever do it again, I plan to break my journey for an hour or two at Zell am See, as from the train windows it looked like a nice place to wander around and have lunch by the lake. I would expect there are luggage lockers at the station to dump the gear in.
