Tour Or Backpack?

My recommendation would be to buy a Eurailpass and a travelpack and go on your own. I did that several years ago and am doing it again this year. This time I'm going to London, Paris, Heidelberg, Amsterdam and Bruges so am getting only a Europass for five days of train travel vs. the unlimited Eurailpass. Whatever you do, have a wonderful trip!

Paul, I have been to Europe about 3 times now my last trip was for about 15 months, but the first time I went I went for 2weeks, I think the Eurail thing is great for freedom but you need lots of time, especially to get into the way of life over there. There so much to see. The first time I went I did a 2 week world wind tour and would recommend you do too, then pick the place you like and go back and stay longer if you can and see more.
Hope thats some help

I would recommend the backpacking! I backpacked around Europe in 1992 and loved it! You have much more freedom to do what you want to do, and on your own time schedule. Get a couple good guide books and plan as you go.Staying at youth hostels is a great way to meet people. Tours are good, but you are limited to what they show you, and you cannot stay longer if you really like a place and want to explore it more.
