too short?
I have a trip planned where my family and I are visiting Florence for 6 days. We were thinking about how we could possibly get to Rome for a little while, and decided that we could take a train to get there (from what I heard, its very easy). I was wondering if one day is way too short to visit Rome. We were considering leaving early in the morning, and then coming back as late as possible. We don't really want to see nearly everything there, just a few things (the Vatican and other bits of the city). Is it crazy to spend only one day there?
Thanks

Florence is absolutely wonderful but you could consider splitting your six days so that you had more than a day in Rome. And if you haven't already made airline reservations, you should look at an open jaw flight so you won't have to retrace your steps.

I'm with dln on this one. Why spend 6 days in Florence when you could be spending MOST of that time in Rome? Or is there something you aren't telling us, like you HAVE to be in Florence that long for some reason? Or is this just part of a longer trip?

I see nothing wrong with five days Florence: one day in Rome. or four:two.
How many people ever see Florence a little more comprehensively than the average 2.5 day stay there (confessing my own "haven't really seen enough of Florence" hand here - - but equally true of Rome and virtually ever other destination in Europe, despite 24 trips).
Best wishes,
Rex

Thanks for all the advice everyone!
We're staying for the 5 days in Florence because we're visiting some friends and want to spend most of our time with them. If we weren't I would have loved to spend more time in Rome.
