Tips for Venice
I just arrived from venice where i spent two great days and i´ll give you some usefull tips. I´ve used some some of the tips that i saw in this forum, thanks to all of you.

1. Connection from Venice to MarcoPolo airport by bus its possible an the buses start at 5 AM in Roma Square(it took about 20 min. to the airport) it costs 2.70 ?
2. Connection Venice to Marcopolo airport by water táxi costs around 80? yes 80? (almost a robery...)
3. Ask for information on public institutions or services, other like hotel employes and private enterprises could confuse you and they are fond of Euros (?) (if you know what i mean...)
Pay attention to the menu of restaurants to the "servicio not included) which means extra 12-15% on the restaurant bill
5. If you ever go to Murano (the glass island) don´t by at the first and the closest store or shop or factory. Make sure that you get yourself familiarized with the prices for the same or almost the same object (very beautiful indeed!). The most recognized pices are those from a Murano´s master named Moreti, who puts an 2M" in all his work.
6. When you by a Vaporeto thichet, don´t forget to obliterate it (fees colud be very high)
7. Use bags with wheels, because you could have to walk some distance, not much, when you arrive and when you leave the city. Avoid to go there with unnecessary things.
8. Take with you a strong plastic box like 2tupperware" to put the glass pieces as well as a tube to bring, eventualy, the paintings that you could buy everywhere.

I have some more tips that i could do later on.
Bye, bye

VENICE IS DEFINETELY A MAGIC SPOT

Paulo

Thanks, Paulo.

Does anyone know if there is another less expensive altervative, via water, from Marco Polo to Venice? Or is the 80 euro water taxi the only water option? Also, does anyone know where the water taxis, or other water craft, arrive in Venice? Thanks.

Capo,
When we were in Venice last September we caught a waterbus to the MarcoPolo airport from Venic by waterbus for 38,000 lira (I just checked my notes) for the 2 of us. At that time the exchange rate was a bit over 2,000 lira to the $1.00. The waterbus station was in front of Harrys Bar.

Hope this helps.

The boat service to Marco Polo airport is called Alilaguna & it takes about 50 minutes. Not sure if the above poster is referring to their dock, but it's not very well marked. It's on the lagoon between Piazza San Marco & the tourist information building. If I remember correctly it cost me about $15 2 years ago. Boats are bigger than the private (expensive) water taxis, but smaller than the vaporetti. Buon viaggio!

In Europe when you buy a ticket for transport they often don't have the date on them.

Therefore there needs to be a way to make sure people can only use them once.

The system in use requires the tickets to be validated just before travel using one of the machines provided on train platforms or on the trains and buses themselves (depends on country and transport).

You need to find one of these and push your ticket into it and take it back out.

This will date and time stamp it, sometimes clipping a hole in too.

If you don't do this and an inspector stops you for your ticket you will be fined.

Having a non validated ticket doesn't help.

Kavey
