I have conflicting information in travel books I have purchased. One states Italy time change in the fall is the last weekend in September (would that be 9/29 or 9/30?), the other lists the time change as occuring the last Saturday in October.

Reversion to standard time in Western Europe is the same as the US, overnight Saturday/Sunday the last weekend in October. <BR> <BR>twenj

Rex, all that changed 5+ years ago.

Since 1986 DST has gone into effect (where it does) in the US on the first Sunday in April, and returned on the last Sunday in October. The October date was not a change from prior practice. Before this law the April date had been the last Sunday in April. <BR> <BR>Indiana (including Indianapolis) and portions of Ohio operate a bit strangely ... which doesn't surprise some of their neighbors in Illinois and Pennsylavani! <BR> <BR>The continent used to be a bit of a mess, with many different practices. The EU standardized their changes in 1996 to the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October. So, there's a week of difference between US and European practice. <BR> <BR>Russia is a bit of an anomaly here, to no one's surprise. I think they run on "DST" in the winter, and "double-DST" in the summer. <BR>

Okay. Planned and took a spring break trip in late March 99, and I could have sworn it was different for a week or two in mid March that year - - when I was calling for final plans, etc. <BR> <BR>

Rex is correct about this year's spring time change: Most of Europe changed the weekend of March 24/25,whereas in the States it was the weekend after, i.e. March 31/April 1.

Ed, you do come off as having a bit of an attitude, intentionally or not. There is a week difference in when the US and Europe do their time change, just as you pointed out in your second e-mail (as opposed to your first, where you said revision was the same as the US, which, at least for the past few years when I was living in Europe, it was not). Many years ago, when our eldest son was just a baby, we rented a cottage in Brittany for two weeks. It wasn't until we arrived at the ferry to take us back to England that we found out that the clocks had changed during the middle weekend! <BR> <BR>It explained why we had thought opening hours for shops etc rather odd, but then the locals must have thought we were rather odd too!

I appreciate the help in getting my question answered. Ann, that is just why I was concerned about the actual dates, we have to catch the train from Sorrento to Venice on 9/30...so an hour difference could really hurt us. I remember arriving in Spain after Portugal and forgetting the 1 hour change there...we were just about the only ones at restaurants for the first 2 nights...Again, thanks.

Hi, Nancy: We were in Rome in October '99 on the day of the changeover from DST. It was on the last Sunday of October. It actually worked to our advantage, since we had to leave early Sunday morning for a 7:00 am flight out of Rome!! That extra hour of sleep really helped. We were very antsy ahead of time, wondering if they adhered to the US day of changing over, but our hotel staff assured us they did.

I work for an international chain of stores. Part of my responsbilities include phoning certain stores. I know the UK "springs forward" earlier in the calendar year than the U.S. does, & I always get a couple of weeks advance warning from "the powers that be" before this change occurs. <BR>Best To All, <BR>BC

I was doing research on this very issue last night for an upcoming trip. I believe Oct. 28 is the date in Italy at least. That would make it the last Sunday in the month. If I can remember, when I get home I will post the Web site I used, since it is a very helpful one.
