Any advice on WOW airlines traveling from the US to Europe? I know it's billed as a low cost airline and I'm wondering if you "get what you pay for".... Or if it's more like Jet Blue, which is also considered a low cost airline but tends to be far better than most US carriers. Thanks.

Good luck with this. Your own opinion of JetBlue is disputed by some. I recently looked at seat reviews on an airline and got everything from "it had to be the oldest plane" to "it was fabulous." Are there any Youtube videos of the company?

We flew WOW airlines in May. There is no free food, no seatback movie and if your bag is going to weigh more than 11 pounds you need to pay extra. That said, we ate before we left (who seriously likes airline food anyway?), I brought a book, my daughter-in-law brought her Kindle and my husband and son did something unheard of in this day and age; they had an actual face-to-face conversation until they decided to sleep.

We stayed in apartments during our trip so packed light. We pre-paid for extra weight for two of our four bags on the return leg.

I was able to get in on the $99 fares because I tailored our trip to the sale. So for under $1000 four of us flew to and from Europe.

Unexpected extras for us: the flight wasn't full so my son asked if he and his Dad could move to the XXL seats and they were allowed (no extra cost); that meant me and my daughter-in-law could lay across the vacant seats and sleep flat. The staff was pleasant and professional.

I would do it again tomorrow even if I had to sit up and sleep.

Mrs_Wilde, I am reassured by your comments, since I recently bought tickets to Paris on WOW Airlines and then read some of the reviews cited above. I am prepared for the lack of food and entertainment. I only want the airline to get us there safely.

One question: are you allowed to bring a purse in addition to the carry-on bag or do I need to stuff my pocketbook into my backpack?

It's all supposed to be in one bag. That said, I flew out of BWI and when they weighed my backpack while checking in I had a small cross-body purse that was still on me and not in my bag. I just think they didn't notice but you could get a very vigilant check-in person who may make you stuff it in your bag (especially if your purse has any size to it). I wear a cross-body all the time and actually just forgot to stuff it in my bag. I had weighed everything at home; it would not have put me over the weight had they asked me to put it in my backpack.

I read the comments on the airline quality website; we never experienced any delays which seems to be one of the common complaints. My experience with ratings websites is that mainly disgruntled people post but in spite of that WOW did get a 7/10 overall rating.

I think really it's all in your expectations; if you're of the mindset that it's just a seat on a plane that gets you where you want to go AND you have read and abide by the rules, it's fine.
