....Just got back from work. I'm glad to see I'm not alone. Fodor's rehab...maybe a castle in Tuscany? It will have to accommodate very large groups....oops daughter late for sofball, I'll be back.

Peteralan Jul 22nd, 2004 03:29 PM

I feel really sorry for you people.I can go without it any time. Why, I've given up looking on this forum TWICE this month!

wolfshin Jul 22nd, 2004 04:11 PM

I have a confession....I have become so addicted that I think I enjoy planning a trip more than actually going on one.

panucci Jul 22nd, 2004 04:16 PM

Not to be too corny, but part of the appeal to me is that so many people are here just to help others, with no agenda and nothing in it for themselves except the satisfaction of knowing someone enjoyed their suggestion. Of coarse there is this voyeuristic component that I also like. As well as exceptional suggestions for my last few trips to Italy....I got it bad. Maybe I need a socialworker!

SeaUrchin Jul 22nd, 2004 04:53 PM

I can't get by very long without my
my daily electronic channeling with Fodorites.

socialworker Jul 22nd, 2004 05:03 PM

Hi panucci--you just made me LOL!! The only problem is that this social worker is a fellow addict!!

uhoh_busted Jul 22nd, 2004 06:03 PM

Wait until you actually meet up with a Fodorite on one of your trips! It is so much fun -- and I've made several very good friends that I never would have met, except for Fodors!

Actually, that is one way to move past the addiction. Well, that and actually traveling :-) and using suggestions from here and finding neat places to share with everyone else here, too!

panucci Jul 22nd, 2004 06:17 PM

OK, who will be in Italy the first 2 wks in Oct? Where and when

Sue4 Jul 22nd, 2004 06:24 PM

It's comforting to know that there are so many other addicts, too! I have to check in everyday, or feel like I am missing something. Almost immediately after coming home from one trip, I start planning the next. Fodor's makes the planning so much more fun - almost as much as the trip itself!

I just wish I had had Fodor's back in the "days of the office". Maybe then I wouldn't have tried to cut out early on boring days!

jck4 Jul 22nd, 2004 06:58 PM

I'll be in Venice Oct 1-4th!!

Countrymouse Jul 22nd, 2004 11:29 PM

Hi Panucci
You are absolutely right!
I discovered this forum when looking for info on a trip to Vegas last year and rapidly became hooked!
I managed to fight my addiction and went cold turkey. I was 'clean' for about twelve months but recently fell off the wagon when planning a trip to London, well just a small visit couldn't hurt? OH NO! I'm back in it's grip with a vengeance!
PLEASE sign me up for the rehab in the castle in Tuscany (or even a large hut in Barbados would do!).
I'm trying to be good but it's so HARD!
By the way happy anniversary FainaAgain, it's good to hear there is someone worse than yourself, perhaps we should start a 'buddy' system to fight our addiction. Any takers?
Off to lie down in a darkened room till the craving passes!
CM

Countrymouse Jul 22nd, 2004 11:32 PM

Just had to come back in to tell you I was number 50, WOOPEE!!
OH NO IT'S STARTED AGAIN ! ARGGGGGGGGG!!!!

pat_woolford Jul 22nd, 2004 11:46 PM

Why am I doing this? I spend enough time on the Australian forum, now and then hop into Asia and now this - my husband already thinks I'm having cyber-sex!

Countrymouse Jul 23rd, 2004 12:38 AM

Yes Pat Woodford that's how it starts!
The real problem comes when you think it's better than sex! Not that I've reached that point yet you understand (had to put that in in case my darling husband decides to log on to see what all the fuss is about ! don't men have such fragile ego's!).
Anyway I'm off to York for the weekend so I will be 'clean' for the next few days. Look out for my trip report next week!
Commisserations from a fellow sufferer of Fodoritus!

Countrymouse, I am willing to bet that you will not be "clean" for more than a day in NY. You'll look to get Fodors.com somewhere! :)

panucci Jul 23rd, 2004 08:09 AM

So tell me about the Sorrento web cam. Will it be worse than this problem? Will I be trading one addiction for another or adding to the first? I do go cold turkey after my trip, but six months later I start again. I don't know if I keep going back to Italy because I love it or I just like planning the trip....and getting back here.

Weadles Jul 23rd, 2004 08:18 AM

There's a "secret" place in Rome that would be perfect for a Fodor's rehab session...

Statia Jul 23rd, 2004 08:35 AM

Maybe whoever comes up with a 12-step program for the packing dilemma can come up with one for Fodors addition, as well. :)

Hi, my name is Statia and I'm a Fodors-holic.

HeatherH Jul 23rd, 2004 08:37 AM

I don't post that often (except in the actively planning stage of a trip) - but I am a serial lurker. Hmm, wonder if that is a convictable crime? :D

Marilyn Jul 23rd, 2004 10:44 AM

panucci, the Sorrento webcam is no substitute for fodors. It is an additional addiction. Difficult to explain it -- you will either be instantly hooked or you will wonder what the fuss is all about. Check it out -- the first one is always freeeeee, little girl. (There are lots more webcams, you know.)

I like fodoritis. I'm sure I've got it. I'll go anywhere exotic for a 12-step or support program. Statia, maybe you should host it somewhere in your beautiful neck of the woods, preferably in the midst of winter.
