Yes, no shadow of a doubt it is a cave. Matt, we are waiting you and Lizz and children for a mini LDC in restaurant "Toca dos Lobos" next Saturday.

lobo_mau Aug 22nd, 2006 04:53 AM

kenderina, it's a long time since I heard from yo the last time. Are you and Emilio still planning to be in town for Petiscos? Please check the other thread "The Lisbon dining club".

Can anyone tell me how to get from Lagos to the airport in Lisbon with a stop at the Queluz Palace? Is this feasible? We will leave Lagos first thing in the morning and drive up to the palace, stopping for a few hours and then returning the rental car at the Lisbon airport. Will it be safe to park the rental car there with our luggage in it? Thanks.

Hi, carolynf,

You can get good driving directions at www.mappy.co.uk. I plugged in Lagos, Portugal to Queluz, Portugal, and got the route that I would have recommended to you. It's 313 km and they say about 3 hours drive.

The Queluz palace is right off the highway you will be on. You will see it right there as you get off. The parking lot is in the open in between the pousada and the palace, and I don't think it's a risky place to leave the car loaded with luggage.

From Queluz to the airport, you will get back on the IC highway (I believe it's IC 19, but it's the one right outside the palace) in the direction of Lisbon. You will then get on the Segundo Circular, which will take you straight to the airport, and it is well marked. When I typed "queluz" to "aeroporto de lisboa" in mappy.co they gave me what looks like a "back roads" route, which I am not familiar with, but maybe some of the Lisbon residents like Lobo or Matt can comment. In any event, I think it's no more than 15 km from Queluz to the airport.

Hope you have a great trip.

lobo_mau Aug 24th, 2006 04:46 PM

Ireynold, you are right. The way is IC19 + 2nd circular.

carolynf Aug 25th, 2006 04:10 AM

Thanks so much lreynold and lobo. I think we'll try to do that since we plan to leave Lagos after breakfast and hopefully be in Queluz by noon, have a look around, drop off the car at the airport and be ready to "check in" Paulo's apartment by 4 or 5 o'clock.

I know I haven't posted much (at least not as much as some others planning trips to Portugal!) but I just wanted to thank all of you for your help and for creating this great thread. I don't think my trip would be nearly as good if I didn't have all of your ideas and advice. I know we will love Portugal!!

Hi all

It has been a busy summer but now school starts so I am back to reality - except that I now will again check up on all the goings on there.

Matt your trip to the mountains and family looks like a great family time. 97 and still growing grapes and producing wine - says something about that life!

Can't wait to see more LDC photos and reports.

help please Portugal experts - My family (all adults) is taking a one week trip to Portugal the last week of December. With such a short trip, we're having trouble deciding on an itinerary. We can fly into and out of Lisbon, or into Porto and out of Lisbon. Is Porto worthwhile to visit? We're planning to visit Sintra/Obidas/Alcobaco/Coimbra...Any other suggestions? Thank you! Cathy

Lobo, I've meant to call or email but have not had the time until now. We had a wonderful evening with you and Mrs G, she is not only beautiful but a fantastic chef, I dread to think what you'll make of the mess we call home...

So many thankyous from south of the river, things become a little easier time wise next week so I'll be a bit more on track with this thread and my postings on Fodors, responding to emails etc.

Chewbacca indeed.

Happy trails,

Matt

Hi Cathy, welcome to the boat.
As a 1st approach I recommend you 2 (excellent) reports:

6. Europe: Isabel's July Portugal Trip Report with Photos
39 responses; most recent on 08/27/2006, 11:05 pm

11. Europe: (Bailey's) Portugal Trip Report
91 responses; most recent on 08/21/2006, 10:19 pm

After reading it, I'm sure you'll have a lot more ideas about the itinerary that better suits you. If you still have questions, I'm sure Bailey, Isabel, Matt and many others will be happy to answer you.

It was a pleasure. We have to do it again.
It was kind of you to venture into the turkey guizzards :-)

Lobo and Matt:

Did you receive the email I sent last week ? I've been having some problems with email so, if you responded I didn't receive it.

Less than two weeks !!

In case anyone is interested in following a year in Lisbon as seen through the eyes of a U.S. professor of English, you should take a look at this website: http://www.mcsweeneys.net/links/philipgraham/index.html
As of today, there are three entries, and I am enjoying them a lot.
