From what I understand it's common for people to take food on board trains in Europe and yet I also know that one has to go through security and passport control to get on the train to Paris from London. Do they restrict food and liquids in the same way that an airplane does? Or are you able to board with the same items that you could on other trains in Europe? Aside from hoping to eat breakfast on board that I'll bring with me I'm also hoping that I'll be able to put any leftover non-perishable food items (from my time in London) into my suitcase and bring them with me. Will this be okay or will the items be confiscated when I go through security?

When you've gone through passport control to the waiting area at St Pancras, there are food outlets with all manner of foodstuffs you can buy - prices didn't seem excessive. I have never tried purchasing food on board, but from what I've seen others purchase, it's fairly junky.

Any left-over food I had in my luggage wasn't questioned.

You don't go thru any security when you arrive at Gare du Nord so your leftovers should be fine. As said above St Pancras has numerous food outlets including an M&S. I usually just buy a coffee on board having breakfasted at one of the St P places

You can take all the food and drink you want on board and carry it into Paris if you don't consume it.

Once you're through the initial security and passport check in St Pancras, that's it. In Paris you just get off the train and walk out of the station.
