Given that we're 4- 8 hours ahead of you chaps, and given teh fortnight I've just had, I'll tell you, I left the office at 5.45pm (unbelievably early) I have dealt with my email, walked the dog, had a bath and am heading for bed. I've had a large (very large) double matured Lagavulin to keep me company. My husband's due in on the last Amsterdam flight, but I'll be dead to the world by then
Tomnorrow my sister and her family are coming to see us in the afternoon, after my niece has done an open day at the college she means to go to in September. I have French lesson in the morning, I have to drive across Aberdeenshire to see my secretary who had a baby last week, then come home, watch the Challenge Cup Final, and cook supper for 6;
on Sunday I have the usual crew of 6 adults and 3 children coming for supper to celebrate a birthday.
And the weather forecast is good.

This is our "prepare for France" weekend...we leave Thursday for two weeks in the Dordogne, St. Emilion and Paris!
I just got in from buying several Bordeaux wines, a couple baguettes and an assortment of French cheeses and pates. Friends who will meet us in St. Emilion at the beginning of our second week are coming over tonight to finalize plans.
The rest of the weekend will be spent, among other things, consolidating all of the valuable info I've printed from this site and beginning to stage items for packing!

Here in the Dutch W.I., I'll be going out for sunset drinks with my husband shortly. Otherwise, I have an utterly exciting weekend planned of playing "catch up" in my house after being gone nearly three months. That is....if I can stay off Fodor's long enough.

Unfortunately we have now recovered from serious bouts of jetlag, so that excuse is inoperable when dealing with the accumulated bills, phone messages, weeds, relatives and other blights on humanity (well, not all the bills are blights) that amassed in our absence. "Can you believe that a week (now two weeks) ago we were in...?" Seems like the Jurassic age. Barcelona, are you still there?
Birthday festivities for in-laws Sunday means I have to go into the rear garden (now there's a misnomer) to exhume the patio furniture from the spoor of winter so that visiting family units won't be sitting on squirrel poop left by our bushy-tailed fauna. (Big cedar trees and chestnuts, aka squirrel condos.)
Perhaps it will rain...

Friday night will find my daughter and me at a gallery opening downtown, complete with silent auction and various bands playing! Should be a gala evening.
Saturday--my husband comes home from a business trip to the UK. The poor man will be knackered. It took him 48 hours all told to get to Gatwick, not including actual flight time (and he wasn't even supposed to go there; he was diverted from Birminham). It was all because of the thunderstorms that were happening in Houston, Chicago, and Newark. Made all the air travel go haywire! So the dear man is coming home to a clean house--believe me that doesn't happen often--and a big juicy steak. He'll think Father's Day has arrived early.
Sunday I think we will relax and read the paper and think about our upcoming trip to Paris and Provence!

Oh Scarlett, I truly am happy it is Friday!
The children at school are starting to get into the "end of the year" attitude. They are sweet, but when the weather is nice (as it is today here in the Boston area) AND it is May, it is a challenge to keep them focused on learning (even though we try to keep it exciting, engaging and interesting) and we have the MCAS tests next week!
We are not going anywhere, but this weekend our son and his girlfriend are coming here for Sunday dinner - this is a first!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

This is great!
Sheila, whose birthday, not yours is it??
Marilyn, I wish I could be there for another lunch together, we have to make a date for the future! I hear you will be meeting some Fodorites in NYC, how cool is that?
Statia, where did you watch the sunset? from your home or at the beach?
Croque Madame, it is frightening and hilarious, isn't it? I remember teaching my son to use my Saab stick shift, jerk, lurch, stall. He got more frustrated, I tried so hard not to laugh.
Gardyloo, that is one thing that we have noticed about Florida squirrels..they are tiny and not so destructive, as the squirrels in the North. I hope your jet lag evaporates and you start planning your next trip
dln, Too bad you didn't get to take the trip with your husband. It could have turned into something more fun, perhaps? shopping while waiting? exploring while finding your way to the right city?
Aahh Marianna, there is nothing like meeting that first girlfriend~
Tomorrow we will see the first of our Film Festival films and tomorrow night we will get to see/meet Bill Murray.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend

I went downtown to my favorite shop where the reps of the designers were there serving wine and food. I also planted a lilac bush already with four blooming flowers. I don't have alot of sun back there so praying it survives. I met a friend for a drink and now back after many hours and my J. greeted me with a pastis.

TGIF - Finally the right Friday! Tomorrow we head off to Paris, Naples, Sorrento, Rome, Venice, and Frankfurt.
Thanks to everybody for all the info about discount flights within Europe, inexpensive hotels everywhere, driving the Amalfi Coast, life jackets in Venice, sneakers in Paris, ATM's and credit cards, Pompeii, what to wear in churches, coffee in Italy, restrooms in MacDonalds, lineups and admission charges everywhere, open jaw flights, what to tip, how to pack, Volare Air weight restrictions, train travel in Italy, which books to read and movies to see, digital cameras, money belts, Sorrento Webcam, internet cafes, and especially how not to look like a tourist!

This weekend will not be very exciting for me, so I'll tell you about next weekend. On Friday, May 21 I'll be flying to Las Vegas, staying the weekend, then driving to LA to sail the Monarch of the Seas from Monday through Friday. The following Saturday I will return home from LA. So next Friday I'll be the one who is saying Yippee, TGIF!!
