Teeth cleaning in Dubrovnic or Croatia???

I know it is a wierd question, but we are permanent travelers ( http://www.soultravelers3.com/ ) and I need to get my teeth cleaned every 3 months and am over due.

I am hoping someone here has a dentist that they love and can highly recommend. We will be in Dubrovnic for about 2 weeks and then working our way up Croatia towards Slovenia and Lake Bled.

When we were in Mykonos there was something about going to the dentist in Croatia on the BBC but I never heard the story, but the idea caught my ear.

I have a good dentist in Spain where we winter, just looking to get a good teeth cleaning by a good and GENTLE dentist at a decent price.

We are willing to travel so most any town will do as long as it is not to far inland. Dubrovnic would probably be easiest as we will be here the longest, but any good suggestions might work.

Thanks so much!!

I don't know of a particular dentist in Dobrovnic, but I did see the BBC item about dentists in Croatia. Apparently they are all well trained, but much cheaper than in many other countries, and so the government is encouraging 'medical tourism' Not necessarily a reason to go there, unless you need major work, but something well worth while if you are already there. They do also guarantee their work - including cost of travel back to Croatia to resolve a problem.

Thanks Carlux, I am so glad that you saw the show as I only saw the teaser. I was very curious as to what it meant.

I am still hoping someone here from Croatia will answer with a specific dentist. I am just a little nervous to go to one without a recommendation even just for a cleaning.

Still it is good to know that they have a good reputation. I had read before that Hungary is a good place for dental work at good prices, but I just need a cleaning.

One place NOT to see the dentist is Turkey. I saw my local dentist yesterday for a minor problem before leaving on a trip to Turkey in two weeks. He told me he had another patient who just returned from Turkey where he had had a dental emergency. The Turkish dentist SMOKED during the entire procedure and didn't wear gloves!

JaneB, it is not really a good idea to extrapolate from one instance to all the members of a particular occupational grouping in a whole country. A friend of mine had a horrible experience with a dentist in Ireland; neither she nor I believe that all Irish dentists are bad. We believe that one dentist got things badly wrong in relation to one procedure.

I would add to that a suggestion that one should be somewhat sceptical of reports by dentists in one country about standards in another country where prices are much lower. Many dentists in the UK and Ireland issue dire warnings about standards in places like Budapest. I am one of many people who have ignored such warnings and suffered no ill effects.

I was also warned about dentists in Spain and even ALL of Europe. I heard tons of night mare stories from all over Europe including the UK.

We have had nothing but wonderful experiences with dentists in Spain ( altho we did go to people that were recommended by friends with personal experience).

The prices are unbelievably cheap compared to the US and the service seemed equal.

My hairdresser was from the UK and she was very pleased with extensive dental work including implants that were super cheap and quickly done in Spain compared to what she would get in the UK.

I am not looking for extensive dental work, just a good cleaning by a reputable dentist.

I don't know any well known dentists in Dubrovnik, but since you will be traveling up towards Slovenia, I can suggest a clinic in the city of Split. It is called Split-Dent Dental Clinic and the head dentist is Dr. Blazenka Bilandzic. I know that many tourists go there. Here is their website: http://www.split-dent.com

Hey Gaspard!!

Dubrovnik was great, but we left after 25 days and have been island hopping again ( what can I say? ) and now are in Hvar headed to Korcula.

We have had a wonderful adventure island hopping in Greece, Turkey and now Croatia.

Still more to come ...Bled, Capri and maybe Sardenia. ha ha.

Yep, seemed to be the year of the boat ( and ferry) this year.

Thanks again for your help with the Greek Islands!!

Hello! I live in Zagreb, and I am working in dental tourism for over 5 years now ... I would like to give you some tips on how to choose a dental clinic in Croatia whom you can entrust your dental care:
Tip No.1: Go to a smal place and forget about the "mega clinics"... you will certainly find a greater customer service and a more individual approach in a smaller one...
Tip No. 2: Make sure that the locals go to this clinic .... if at the reception of the chosen clinic you see just foreigners and zero Croats... ask yourself why.... I’ll tell you why ... Croats stay away from these places, they just don’t go to big widely publicized clinics .... (and it’s a big lie when they say there are no Croats because Croats don’t habe enough money to afford such procedures.....) Look for a clinic where the 80% of both the patients are Croatian.
Tip no.3: First visit is very important ... and a "GOOD FIRST VISIT" lasts at LEAST HALF AN HOUR....if they had a look of your dental situation in 5 minutes and estimated it in another 5 minutes, please forget about it...
Tip No.4: In the case of implantology always ask for the brand of the implants on the market because there are a lot of different brands with a big difference in quality... the 3 brands of the highest quality would be Astra Tech, Nobel and Straumann. Also before going through with the procedure ask about the surgeon’s experience, of course the surgeon who will carry out your implantology procedure.
Tip no.5: Do not choose the clinic according to a website....a nice looking website = a good quality, mediocre website = poor work *** WRONG *** BIG MISTAKE.
There are Croatian clinics with questionable Internet sites but working very well!

Tip No.6: Always ask for a written quote before starting with the procedure and at the end of the procedure a certificate of guarantee of the materials used and with regard to the implantology an implant “passport”.
Tip no.7: Inform yourself about the previous experience of the doctors working in the Croatian clinic of your own choosing, check if they have received some prizes or awards and especially if they are enabled to do implantology ...
Tip no.8: Ask about sterilization systems that they use.
These tips are just a small part of what you should pay attention to.
With that being said, each of you can begin with your search and selection of the clinics in Croatia!
Good search!

The OP has had nine years to get their teeth done; I imagine they've found a dentist by now.
