Sunday night dining - Barcelona, suggestions please.

We are going to Barcelona next week and having read Ekscrunchy's great restuarant list I was armed with lots of suggestions for dinner.... Howevere we don't arrive till late on Saturday night, leaving us only Sunday and Monday for lunch and dinner.
This is where i am struggeling, all the great places suggested seem to be closed on a Sunday and Monday (Hisop, Cal pep - which is opne Monday evening and where i think we will try for Monday night - unless i should book Hisop?)

Does anyone have any suggestions on where we could book to go for dinner on Sunday evening? not to worried about price, but be great to go somewhere buzzy and with local cuisine. We are staying close to the Catherdal but happy to go anywhere in the city (as long as its not too awkward to get too)

Thanks in advance.

I've eaten at the Brasserie Flo many times, and have sent other folks there, who loved the place.

The food is French / Catalan. It's a beautiful restaurant with very good food. It's fairly centrally located.

Taxis are everywhere in Barcelona, and fairly easy on the wallet.

You will be overwhelmed with choices. Barcelona blew me away with how international the tourists are, and the number of places to eat that were open at all hours. We had excellent luck reading menus and checking out what others were eating, in order to make a choice!

I think that's why I am seeking suggestions, as you say there seem to be LOTS of choices ( which is great) but its making my head spin

PaComerAlgo is open Sunday night. Very good food with lots of energy. Several staff members spoke English. I'd recommend booking at the counter. I wrote about what we ate (on a Sunday night) in that report.

I will be a walk from your hotel, but doable. Taxi prices are not exorbitant.

Since you will be staying nearby, I'll just add that you should avoid all eating places on Las Ramblas, with the possible exception of Pastelleria Escriba, which happens to be open on Sunday afternoon.

ps. Cal Pep and Hisop, as you know, are two very different experiences; the first has counter seating, and is very strong on simple seafood plates, and the other a small restaurant featuring chef-driven cuisine. Since you may eat at Pacomeralgo on Sunday, perhaps you should try Hisop on Monday night, so you will have more of a range of experiences.

If you want to push it, you could conceivably get in line about 7pm at Cal Pep so that you snag seats at the bar when they open for dinner, try a few seafood plates, and then continue on to Hisop for your reservation around 9 or 9:30pm. Advice only for the truly obsessed.

Let me say here that in my opinion, the standard of cooking in Barcelona is truly exceptional; there are SO many fantastic eating places, and the bar seems so much higher than in most cities that I've visited. The focus on prime ingredients, the ingenuity, the level of execution....you have to experience it to believe. And for a seafood lover, it is pretty close to heaven.

Have a wonderful, wonderful trip and please do not hesitate to ask further questions.

This is the link that I found for Cerveceria Catalana on Carrer Mallorca in the Eixample neighborhood. It is our favorite restaurant in Barcelona; we ate there twice. Food is delicious & reasonable. They are open on Sunday and Monday.

Many of the restaurants have been closed due to the bank holiday today, so no luck with cal pep and Hisop, but we had fabulous Tapas in El Born today ( can't remember at the minute the name of the place) BUT we have decided to come back to Barcelona next Saturday and will try Cal Pep for lunch and hisop for dinner....l LOVING Barcelona.......

Pardon me for getting in here late, but Restaurant Matamala is open on both Sunday and Monday. They treaded our Harvard group quite well (www.matamalarestaurant.com/) for a couple of meals, even going so far as to stay open two hours past there normal lunch time because the flight was a little late arriving and it took a little longer to get everyone checked into the hotel.

Well Eks, I have finally manges to snag a reservation at Hisop this weekend, due to us deciding to go back to Barcelona for one final night!!! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll let you know how we get on ( am going to try and go to Cal pep at lunchtime as it was closed last Monday!!!)
Thanks also to everyone for res recommendations. I'll try and do a trip report ( of sorts) when we get back.

Buen provecho!! (I can't figure out how to make the upside down exclamation point in front, so I put 2 upright ones at the end)

Bon profit! -- you don't need the upside down thing when you write it in Catalan ;-)
