We have booked 2 night in old town salzburg and 2 nights in fuschl on the the lake. Is there a way to take a ferry to St Wolfgang or should we look at staying in St Wolfgang for 2 nights

Hi,
Just curious, what research made you think about staying in St. Wolfgang?
While we never stayed in St. Wolfgang, we spent the better part of the day there in early Dec. '15. To us it seemed very charming and we thought it's a place we'd like to stay for a few nights. Just some extra info, we day tripped to St. Wolfgang from our "base" in Schonau am Konigsee near Berchtesgaden. Parked in St. Gilgen and took the ship on the Wolfgangsee.

We enjoyed St. Gilgen as our base on that lake.

I'm assuming you are trying to figure out if you can take a ferry from one of the other villages on Wolfgangsee to St. Wolfgang so you don't have to drive around the whole lake (since Fuschl am See is closest to St. Gilgen?

If so, the answer is yes and if you are staying in Fuschl then it is an easy drive to St. Gilgen to visit and hop a ferry to St. Wolfgang. However, I have to say that St Wolfgang is a wonderful place to stay - we spent 4 nights there a few years ago and loved it. We took the ferry to St. Gilgen and around the lake plus we rented a little electric boat one day. We had a car and also explored a few other villages/towns in the area and day tripped from St. Wolfgang to Salzburg which was pretty easy.

I too have spent a few nights in St. Wolfgang and really enjoyed it. I visited St. Gilgen by boat, train up the Shafburg (sp?) mountain, etc. I am glad I stayed there over St Gilgen as it is a bit of a larger town with more restaurants, hotels, shopping, etc. I am sure others will disagree with me.

I liked getting out of bed in the middle of the night and watching the bakers in the bakery kitchen across the lane from my balcony! Their kitchen was one floor down from my hotel room. Yum!

I had a car so it was a few night stop stop along my route. Had lunch in Bad Ischl after leaving Hallstatt in the morning, stayed in St Wolfgang before moving onto Salzburg.

Didn't see Fuscl so can't comment there.

Hi,

My first reason for writing is "gracy12"'s post. In Early Dec. 2013, while based in Schonau am Konigsee, we drove to St. Gilgen, parked and got the ferry to St. Wolfgang. After spending an afternoon there, both myself and my wife said St. Wolfgang is a place we need to stay on a future trip. No kidding. We also based in Schonau am Konigsee for the Christmas Markets in early Dec. 2010. Love the area around Berchtesgaden.
