Solo in Swiss Land

I am going to be "housesitting" in Geneva for 3 weeks. I will be able to go on day trips and would love any suggestions -
Also - I'll be on my own - first time ever - any advice?

How fun for you! You can take day trips to Montreux by train or boat and Vevey and Lusanne as well. Very beautful this time of year! I like the Chateau de Chillon in Montreux (a bit touristy, but lots of history there). You can take the Golden Pass to Interlaken - 3 hours one way, but seems like 20 minutes!
Enjoy your time there. How did you end up with this assignment? I'm looking to spend the summer in Switzerland.

Annecy is a very charming French town, not often mentioned on this board. It is only 40 miles from Geneva.

Take the train to Vevey for the Saturday morning market. It's about an hour by train from Geneva. And maybe a 5 min. walk from the train station to the square where the farmers market takes place. It starts early AM and ends by noon. It is FANTASTIC. If you happen to be there during a specific 6 weeks (July into August, i think?) added on to the market is Marche Folklorike (sp?) when they serve wine, have orchestras, those guys with the long horns, maybe accordian groups. Different wineries sponsor each Saturday morning. You buy a glass (maybe 7-8 swiss franc?) and you can get it filled as many times as you like (can drink!). They even have a little wagon that goes around the market stalls and serves as you shop. The vendors are from Switzerland, France, Italy and much more. Fresh produce, flowers, dried meats and sausages, dairy, bakery, clothes, household goods. It's colorful, authentic, and a ton of fun.

Would be perfectly safe and easy to do alone. If it happens to be during Folklorique and you like to drink wine, I guarantee you will meet other people, both travelers and locals alike.

p.s. Another vote for the castle at Chillon, as mentioned above. I'm not much of a sight-seer type but that place is very cool.
