Smiley faces

Would someone PLEASE tell me how to do these? I've read the entire thread on the "cute icons". I've gone to the Fodor site that shows all of them but I cannot figure out how to do it....talk about computer illiterate!!! Thanks for your help...Mary

Sorry, I hit send too quickly. For a beer stein simply follow the instructions as directed. Type two left sided parentheses then the letter B and then two right sided parentheses....like so... . You should be able to see the beer stein.

On the Mac, the symbol does not appear until you preview the message. I am less interested in those symbols than in bold type and italics. How are these created?

I always get one by accident on this board... I use the semicolin, dash, close parenthesis as a winking eye with a nose & smile in normal email i.e. ; - ) and here's how it looks (hope this works) when you take the spaces out:

Can anyone tell me what this is? King Tut with his eyes open? A head with a belt?

For italics, underline, or bold:
Type a <
then without a space type a b for bold, i for italics, or u for underline
then type a >
Type the text you want changed
To end, type the < followed by / the b, i, or u and a >

If you right click on any of these icons, then click on "properties," you'll get a box that tells you, among other things, the "name" of the icon. This one is named "mrt" so I think it is supposed to be Mr. T. Unfortunately, emoticons are not yet as sophisticated as one might wish, and what a wish list I have for symbols not currently available that I could really use!

Use of the icons tends to make up for lack of travel by many prolific posters.

Gina, huh? Was that a nasty little zinger or did I misunderstand?

I'm sorry, but I don't see the correlation. Was it really necessary to post such an unkind comment? I don't think that someone is 'better' than others simply because they travel more often.

unecessary remark Gina, if you're saying people have to travel if they post. Many people who post a lot probably dont travel but they are free to use the icons just like travellers. Its a travel site but anybody can talk on it. Get a life.

re Gina's comment ... I can't believe someone feels the need to pull the "I am more of a traveler than you" even on a simple thread like this one.
