Sleeping Pill- Italy - Rozerem

We are leaving for our honeymoon early October. I am not a good flyer and normally take a xanex to fly. Since this trip to Italy is a longer flight than normal I asked my doctor for a sleeping aid. She prefered Rozerem over Ambien or Lunesta. I have not tried it yet ---its 8mg and am wondering if anyone has tried this and if it worked for them.

Thanks,
Robyn

Robyn - not wanting to state the obvious but if has or has not worked for someone else does not mean that it will work in the same way for you - we are all different. Try it out at home now - if it doesn't work you have time to go back to your doctor, get something else and then try that before you go

Thanks for the response, I completely understand what you mean and should have been more clear. I am going to try this at home to see how it affects me. To be more specific- I would like to know if anyone out there has tried more than one sleeping aid and which they preferred. My doctor made a face when I asked for Ambien yet I have heard it works nor did she like Lunesta so she said try this --Rozerem. I am a bit weary taking this but know I will need it to get me through this flight.

I took this one time, several years ago, and it put me in such a deep sleep instantly. The problem was that fifteen hours later I was still feeling extremely drowsy and had a hard time staying awake. All in all it took almost twenty four hours from the time I took it til the time it left my system. It was a horrible feeling. However, I am sensative to many medications, and they can affect me pretty strongly. I only use Ambien for our flights.

My advice is the obvious; just try it before you leave!

Isn't this a new medication? Why would you not give it a try at home so you can know if it works for you?

Yikes! If its new, it couldn't have been the medication I took a few years ago. I'm pretty sure that was the name of it, but perhaps it just was something similar.

I think Xanex is the better prescription approach for flying. It is an anti-anxiety rather than a sleep aid which is more helpful and appropriate to the situation imo.

thanks for all the advice,

Of course I am going to try this at home, I never said I wasn't going to. Here is why I am looking towards this route vs the xanex, I have to take too many xanex to be effective and that makes me way too loopy instead of just a good sleep. I will give this a try this weekend and see if it works for me.

thanks,
robyn

I can't sleep on planes, period. So a little relaxation is all I'm looking for. I would consider a real sleep aid for the first couple nights after you arrive, to adjust to the time change though.

Your doctor probably wrote the script for Rozerem (relatively new) as his/her pharma rep probably just left the office after promoting the new pill.

Like any med get a few tabs (not a full script), try it and see whether it works; if not go with one of the others.

I also need to take Xanax when flying. My doctor prescribed Ambien for a long flight to Spain and told me it was okay to take with the Xanax. Well, the two drugs didn't mix well. I don't remember getting off the plane, getting our luggage, and getting to my hotel (thank goodness I was with hubby).

I had done a trial run of the Ambien before I left for Spain. I personally didn't like it too much because my dreams were in Technicolor!! Not a very restful sleep for me but I wanted to be knocked out for the long fligh so I took it anyway. LOL!

Now when I fly, I just stick with Xanax. Sometimes I just double my dose and that helps me sleep.

Hi again, thanks for all the advice
Sandi, I was thinking the same thing...that the pharma rep just left the office...except she didn't write me a script yet but only gave samples for the Rozerem, well I will try it before we leave.

Wachootalknboutwillis- I didn't mix two medications but I took a few too many xanex one time and a similar thing happened to me. I don't remember getting off the plane...the car ride home...and apparently fell on to my bed at home fully dressed. I woke up the next day feeling very very rested! But not the smartest move.....still I will not fly w/o it.
