The whole area of Alsace is fun. Besides Strasbourg, visit Colmar, a medium-sized town, and drive the Alsation wine road. It can get crowded especially on weekends, but it's very charming and often possible to find festivals and wine tastings. Riquewihr is particularly cute. There's also some of the best eating in France there with plenty of Michelin stars. The Auberge d'Ill in Illheausern is a 3 star and less expensive than most three stars so if you've always wanted to eat in one, this might be the one to try/start with. It has an outdoor garden where they serve pre-lunch drinks. Since the surroundings are beautiful lunch rather than dinner is the preferred meal. Requires reservations, of course, the sooner the better. If time is limited, I'd certainly opt for the Alsatian wine road over Basel and even over Strasbourg. You can easily include Colmar with the wine road. It has lovely canals and a good museum, Musee Unterdenlinden.
