Shows

Has anyone been to the show at the Moulin Rouge and what can you tell me about it. Is it worth going? I hear they pack you in like sardines. Did anyone have dinner there and how expensive is it? And is it any good? Do you also have to pay to get in? I guess you could just go to see the show and not have dinner. Any info will be appreciated. Also, do they have theater there, like "Lion King" "Cats" etc. How can I find out what will be playing when we are going?

There are roughly 3 groups of people who have been there (not me) about equal in size-
One says they thought it was great fun and an all around good evening.
One says the show was fun but the food mediocre and not worth it
One says none of it worth it. I think these are people who have been to Vegas and seen the top-flight shows.
I say - If you want to see it, go. It will be an experience and French people tell me the Moulin Rouge is the most typical. For more Paris information e-mail me Ð [email protected]

I cannot offer any information about Moulin Rouge, but maybe I can help out with your question about theatre. Currently in Paris there are some fantastic musicals playing. The two I have seen are "Les Dix Commandements" (10 Commandments) and "Romeo et Juliet". They are both amazing, and in French of course. I have taken several non-French speaking people to see "10 Commandements" and they all loved it. The music is beautiful and the dancing so creative. When are you going? I believe they are playing until the end of the year. You can order tickets online at www.fnac.com. The site is in French, but if you dont speak french you should still be able to get by. From the homepage go to the "Spectacles" link and do search from there on the title or dates. If you need any more information just ask!

Kelly: Did you happen to see "Notre-Dame de Paris"? I absolutely love that music. It's still on, but at a smaller theater (I think at the Mogador, from what I gathered at www.pariscope.fr).
I am thinking about going at the end of December. Thanks.

Kelly, I am planning to get tickets for December 29.
Do you think it's possible, once I am there on Dec. 26? Stupid question, maybe. Sorry.
I usually go to FNAC, Rue de Rennes for all sorts or theaters or concerts, because it's so convenient.
I have no experience ordering online.
I usually call the theaters from here in Zurich and it always worked so far. But I am a bit anxious that over the Christmas holidays, it's more difficult and they want me to send a check or so which I am not too fond of.

Ursula,

It may be possible, but if it's towards the end of the show, plus it's the holidays, small theatre etc... who knows? I have used fnac to order tickets online no problem. They even had a seating chart to show you the exact seats (not sure if that's for all the theatres or not). You can then have the tickets mailed to you (not sure for foreign addresses) or just pick them up in person at fnac. Just be sure to have the credit card with you from which you ordered the tickets. You could at least check out the availablity on fnac. The tickets are usually in several price categories and you can see which categories still have seats left.

Have fun!

Kelly thanks a lot. I most probably will order them with FNAC and pick them up upon arrival. I know Garou is not performing anymore in that one, but I am sure it's still worth seeing "Notre-Dame-de-Paris", besides that, I prefer smaller theaters to the Palais des Congres or Bercy.

Have fun as well!

Hello Kelly & Ursula also. Good conversation there. Thanks! I will check into the web sites you mentioned. we are not going until next June. We just confirmed our hotel and air this week. I'm excited already. We are going with another couple who has been 2 times previous and they are going to show us around. But I wanted to know about shows. Don't think they have been to any while there. I think Moulin Rouge must just be a tourist thing and you can then say "I've been there". We are going to hit all the highlights and have planned to splurge on lunch at someplace fancy our friends have been to before. Cannot remember the name but it is very expensive they say. It is not the Juels Verns I remember that much. Anyone else out there have any feedback on Moulin Rough and or different shows while in Paris?

lze: You can check with
www.parisavenue.com
what's on.
Pariscope is the weekly What's on for Paris and runs from Wed-Tue. It's online, but only in French. A good thing, is to go to the Tourist Office Champs-Elysées to see what's available for the next days re: concerts, etc.
They can also give you good advice about what you might like (and understand). Also, the branches of FNAC bookstore and department stores such as Le Bon Marché have a ticket service.
BTW: Just saw the movie "Moulin Rouge" today and did not like it at all.
If you want a real good Paris show (not for kids, though), go to "The Crazy Horse". Very classy, in my opinion.
Until June, a lot of shows may not be on anymore. Get yourself a copy of Pariscope (FF 3.-) once you're there. It has also a small, but nice section in English.
