Sean Connery
Sorry Denise - but yes! Personalities like Hitler and Mussolini are fundamental to the history and current makeup of their countries. Before visiting a country I always check out biographies of the most illustrious and /or notorious charcters from thereabouts.

By the way, as another expatriated ScotNat(sadly not in Sean's league!), can I mention Annie Lennox, Sheena Easton, Rod Stewart, that doctor bloke in The Bold and the Beautiful, half of Joan Baez, Andrew Carnegie, Robert Carlyle, Ewan McGregor etc etc.

Adam, you made a good point, but I think you could have made a much better point with the people you chose to list. Instead of Annie Lenox or Rod Stewart, what about:

-Alexander Graham Bell- invented the phone.
-Joseph Black- discovered carbon dioxide.
-Robert Stevenson- pioneer designer and builder of lighthouses. Grand-father of Robert Louis Stevenson.
-Robert Louis Stevenson- Author ("Treasure Island").
-Alexander Crum Brown- devised the system of representing chemical compounds in diagrammatic form with
connecting lines representing bonds.
-James Watt- developed the steam engine
-William Murdock- inventor of coal-gas lighting.
-Tony Hughes- contributed greatly to the joy of fellow fodorians in the U.S.
-Sheila- outstanding Scotland Tourism Office Representative.

...and on, and on....

John Muir - founder of U.S. national parks system

Captain Kidd - famous pirate

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - wrote Sherlock Holmes

John Paul Jones - founded the U.S. Navy

Sir Walter Scott - writer, etc. - the last name gives it away

Adam Smith - the famous economist

"Chicken" McNuggets - so-called because he was the only one who refused to fight

Brian - you did Tony a disservice - whenever I see his postings now, I will picture the guy from the Simpsons (I think Tony is a little younger though)

Macfrugal's is an off-price store. They buy discontinued stuff, salvaged stuff from train wrecks, etc. and whatever they buy, that's what's in the store. When it's gone, it's gone...brand name stuff at 1/3 the price of retail stores.
Formerly called "Pic'n'Save". High class stuff here in the American Southwest. So far, they have NOT adopted a logo incorporating a guy in a kilt...

As much as i adore the Simpsons I wish to make it clear that I bear absolutely NO resemblance to groundskeeper Willie. My hair is not red, I do not secretly videotape my neighbours and I played the bass drum in the pipe band at school, not the bagpipes.

I probably sound quite like him, though.

regards

Thanks everyone - and yes Maira - I take your point. The reason I used all the showbizzy names is that I was trying to show that Sir(to be?)Sean was not the only STAR to come out of God's Chosen. What I would give for a slab of tablet right now! Any offers?

I just read in our morning newspaper that Sean Connery was voted "Sexiest Man of the Century" in a survey conducted by Woman magazine and the Web site Women.com. More than 16,000 readers opted for the Scotsman over the likes of Brad Pitt, Mel Gibson and Paul Newman.

The results of this survey will be printed in the September issue of the magazine. I, too, remember the 60 minutes interview and it gives me the creeps to think he'll get this award from a women's magazine. Was O.J. Simpson first runner-up?

P.S. My own vote would've gone to my very own hubby.

Pam- That's Capo Stagno as in Head Armor-maker not Campo Stagno as in Tin Country. And yes, its as in CRMcI....but if Tony doesn't look like the bloke on the Simpsons....we should start a lottery on his likeness....Winner gets what? Now there's a travel question!
